Hey Yall,

I was looking at options for uploading patient pictures and Nancy
suggested (in my prev post) that I take a look at Medshere. I have
downloaded the version and it seems to have everything I needed. Can
some one share their experiences on Medshpere. The site says its open
source. I have heard from a friend of mine that their support claims
that one cannot install Medsphere without the support from Meshere. Is
that true?. If one could share their experiences regarding this
package, the learning curve, the support options and the extent of
VistA updates being absorbed into Medshpere would really appreciate
it.

Peace
BD

The source code for Server and CIS are available for download. The
license is AGPLv3. So yes, the software is open source.

I'm not sure why your friend believes that you cannot install
OpenVista with a support subscription, but it seems your experience is
counter to that claim. We sell implementation and support services
around OpenVista, but you are not required to be a subscriber to use
the open source software.

VOESolutions has the ability to upload a patient picture for use with CPRS and
has released it.

I keep hoping that we will find ways to make VistA easier to install
and manage and, yes, I do think it can be done. That being said, I
don't think OpenVista is special here. It seems that installing any
kind of VistA requires some support. However, many people have found
that they can get the support they need through the community
(including this mailing list).

And I must agree with Greg's assessment. At Western State Hospital in
Washington State we've been able to do terrific things with VOE
because of the continuing help we've gotten from the Hardhats.

It just ain't that hard!
