Dr. Rob Tweed of M/Gateway Developments, Ltd. will teach a three-day intensive training course in rapid web application development with EWD, in the days just prior to the VISTA Expo & Symposium in Seattle. The course will run September 8-10, and the Expo September 11-14, so participants can take the class without missing any Expo programming. The course will be held at the same venue as the Expo, and favorable conference hotel rates are available throughout.
Please sign up for the course by August 24th: the course will only be held if we reach the minimum number of participants. Please register today!
EWD is the rapid web application development framework that is fast becoming the de-facto toolset for web-enablement of VistA for both desktop and mobile devices. This 3-day course will provide in-depth, intensive training in the installation, configuration, and use of EWD. The main focus will be in the use of EWD alongside two of the best Javascript frameworks currently available:
ExtJS v4 for desktop web applications
Sencha Touch 2 for mobile web applications that look and feel like native mobile applications.
The course is suitable for both beginners and active users of EWD who want to update their skills in the use of these leading-edge Javascript frameworks.
The
course will be a mixture of classroom teaching/presentation and
practical hands-on development exercises. By the end of the course,
you should be in a position to develop modern HTML5-based web and
mobile web applications on top of VistA.
For the course, attendees will need to:
- bring a laptop computer with the dEWDrop VM installed and running (on either VMWare or VirtualBox) (see http://www.fourthwatchsoftware.com)
- update the version of EWD with the very latest from the Github repository. The simplest approach is to replace all the *.m routine files in the directory /opt/lsb-mgateway/ewd/894/routines with the new ones from Github.- install the GPL versions of ExtJS v4 and Sencha Touch 2. These can be downloaded from http://www.sencha.com. They should be installed by unpacking the zip files into the directories:
- /home/vista/www/ext-4- /home/vista/www/st2.0
Attendees will need to be able to create and edit files on the dEWDrop VM and run the GT.M shell. Windows users should install WinSCP and puTTY.
For Mac OS X users, Coda 2 is a highly recommended toolset for EWD development.
