[Can't figure out why this appear again, as the last posting was in
August...and Google Groups won't allow a posting to a topic that is
over 60 day old. So, I am restarting the topic.]

Bhaskar,

Regarding an poll of installations. Perhaps we can set some reserve
time at the community meeting to capture the key data elements that
would paint a clear picture of the spectrum of installations.

The goal is to design a web form that Joseph believe can easily be
added to the WorldVistA web site. Then we need a way to present the
information. Let talk at the meeting.

This is an excellant idea. Right away the benefits are apparent. The
acummulated information would create a directory of user knowledge by
system installation and over time would show configuration treads.

My one concern is privacy from spammers. Perhaps this is a resource
that is only available (without fee) to individuals that register.
Would Hard Hats or WorldVistA support such a directory?

TOPIC: Starting an informal poll regarding successful Vista
installation
designating hardware/distro/vista version/MUMPS version?

Would it be helpful for the world to start a registry or log of
successful Vista installations? I notice that not everyone is using
the same linux distro, harware or version of Vista. Perhaps it would
be helpful to start an informal poll designating what each of us is
working with. The main points to be covered might be as follows:

Hardware (i.e. cpu, router, backup system, UPS etc.):
Linux Distro (i.e. Debian, RedHat, Ubuntu, Suse and version....)
Windows (XP, NT etc) and CPRS version
Vista version (Hui, FOIA etc.)
MUMPS version (GTM, Cache)
And what works (i.e. Putty and/or CPRS)
Stability (How long running, how many patients, what type of setting
-hospital/type of clinic)
Critical Upgrades/Patches Implemented

In this way those of us starting can glean from the "experts" as to
what is really working vs. what "might" work. I can then create a table

or form to post for quick reference if the community would like. If
this is a stupid idea just ignore. Thanks.

Such a list has been maintained manually at

http://www.hardhats.org/adopters/vista_adopters.html

I don't know how many recent submissions there have been.

Thanks for the link Gregory. It is a great website. But I can't find
any information as to what type of MUMPS, version of CPRS/Vista/Distro
and hardware the adopters used. (And BTW, the only reason why I
haven't posted my system is because I am still trying to get CPRS to
work proper.) Regardless, a running log would be helpful for those of
us who are newbies and also would give us some hope. For example, not
all distro's will have the proper libraries to allow Vista to work.
Going through different distro's and different versions can get very
depressing. (And hope is good, especially for the clinician hacker
that really has no clue... like me. ;) )

Most things you might need can be added to most Linux distributions. I
am
curious what you have been missing.

I don't know about other MUMPSen, but GT.M has very few needed
libraries, and is known to run on contemporary releases of every major
GNU/Linux distribution.

This should be relatively easy to do with the new version of Plone we
are implementing.....will be happy to facilitate a mock up with a
couple
of volunteers to determine how this would work.

Don't forget the overview of 'adopters' that I've kept for years at
http://www.hardhats.org/adopters/vista_adopters.html.

Corrections and additions to this list are always welcome, and can
provide a basis for more detailed catalogs of who has which MUMPS, what
hardware, etc.

Thanks George. I must have looked at the VistA Adopters Worldwide page
a long time ago and forgot that it existed. But sure enough, there it
is linked on the left side navigation...

The list provides a good start and gets me thinking about elements and
attributes to collect from adopters. I wasn't aware there are VistA
implementations in Columbia. Cool! There is growing interest in using
survey forms on the WorldVistA site to collect a range of information.
I predict there will be more traffic on this subject over the next few
days.

During the 14th WorldVistA Community Meeting, Doug Goldstein and Marc
Wine, authors of "Medical Informatics 20/20" noted the value of a
reference model. I haven't read their book yet, but its easy to agree
that ongoing collection of metrics tracking VistA adoption will add to
marketing and promotional efforts.

Best regards,
Peter Bodtke

Thanks John,

I combined the Hard Hats and VSA lists, added a few from Sea Island
Systems, Inc., then took out the duplicates. The assembled list could
benefit from a break down by educational, implementers and services.
Currently the assembled list is stored offline. Before it can be
published, I must approach all of the authors (HH, VSA and Sea Island
Systems for permission to repurpose their lists.) I understand Peter
Groen has assembled a good list. Contacting him is on my to-do list.

As time permits, we will explore using the WorldVistA web site,
powered by Plone, to support an implementation survey and list. There
is a survey feature in Plone, but I haven't gotten through the
documentations quite yet and gotten it to work...
