I had to erase my phone temporarily and restore from backup, which I did before resetting the phone. During the set up process, I kept receiving error messages that the phone couldn't be restored from the recent iCloud backup. I then chose to just set it up later as offered during the setup process. The problem now is I can't recall the steps to do so once the phone is active and I can't seem to located any guidance in the support community that's specific to restoring from an iCloud backup once the phone is already past the initial setup procedure. Thoughts?
Hi, I am Betul, last week I did a buyback with Grgenler Ankamall Ankara in Turkey. I gave my İphone 7 Plus 128 GB phone and I bought an İphone 13 128 GB. 1 day before purchasing, I made a backup this iphone 7 plus 128 gb to Macbook. This backup storage was approximately 122 GB. After purchasing I wanted to restore this backup to new phone, İtunes gave me an storage error. This error was : You can not make a restore because you hadnt enough storage area. So I called call center but They couldnt my problem. How I can not transfer my all data between two phones with the same storage ? I have been suffering for a week. Please solve my this problem.
Before I tried used İcloud but I got an error, i backed it up to the Macbook . My MacBook has a lot storage. İt s a big problem, we can not restore this backup from the new phone that has same storage area with old phone. How can we solve ths problem ?
can you send a 256 GB phone so that I can do this operation? I have been experiencing the victimization of this problem for 1 week, the phone with the same capacity should not do this. I would appreciate it if you would at least help with the provision of the phone
Messing with an iOS backup is not recommended and could result in all data being lost. Your backup likely had items that were compressed on device that were uncompressed during the backup process. Because the backup size is greater than the available capacity on the device, you will need a device with a larger capacity in order to not risk compromising the backup.
I'm one of the developers for Decipher TextMessage. You can use this program to save your SMS, MMS, and iMessages from your iPhone to your Mac or PC. We work every day to keep up-to-date with Apple updates and answer questions from our users -- I hope this information helps you out!
If you have back up your text messages, you can restore from the backup.
To restore information from a backup, use one of the following methods after connecting your iOS device to the computer with which you normally sync:
1. Right-click (or Control-click) the device and choose Restore from Backup
2. If you have a new phone, you can connect to iTunes and it will prompt to restore from your backup Solution from Apple.com:
If you have no backup for your data on iPhone, iPhone data recovery software is your last shot! I used Tenorshare iTunes Data Recovery and it worked well. It's easy to use. Just a few clicks you can get all your data back. Here is a step by step guide for you:
An iTunes back up does save the SMS messages as long as they were on the phone when the back up was made. You can even check the article which clearlhy states SMS are saved in a back up. I personally aswel always have my SMS saved in my back ups I've restored from.
Hello, friend. You can choose to restore SMS form your iTunes Backup if you once backed up your iPhone data with your iTunes library. If yes, you can use a third party software to restore SMS from iTunes backup onto your new iPhone smoothly even without your old iPhone.
gets sabotaged by being sent to another page "How to back up your devices using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support".Is there any way to get the actual page Or is Apple committed to suppressing useful stuff?
In my opinion, there are many ways to backup iPhone sms backup and restore. For instance, iTunes helps you do that. You can do iPhone SMS backup in this way: open iTunes and connect your iPhone to the computer. Select "Backup" to "This computer" or "iCloud" as you like and all your iPhone will be backed up. If you want to restore your data, just choose a restore.

yay! Someone else who gets it. As someone who has been using and depending on Android tools to AUTOMATICALLY backup/recover/synchronize texts (doesnt matter what youre using; its web enabled afterall), and BROWSE my text messages from phone/computer after phone for YEARS, this is my biggest gripe with Apple iphones. That I must plug my device into a computer, actually perform a backup, then having to recover it. That is, after I download the itunes trash. I can go back to texts from years ago and see them using my android, who they were, date/times, , etc etc. Not on an iphone!
did you ever find a solution to this? I'm still looking for an iOS app that works like android's SMS Backup +. I need to keep my messages (with photos) for custody issues with my child. i would have never switched to the iPhone had I known I couldn't easily backup my text messages with date/time, sender, and photo attachments. Any help you can give is much appreciated!!
Hello - I run "Erase All Content and Settings" on my iPhone5 where battery was very damaged "decrease 30% after 1 hour", I thought at least, and I have it only for music only default apps all was removed - after that iPhone has very good condition decrease "3% after 1 day" - so I want do that repeatedly on my iPhone6 with today new iOS10 - but there is problem with sms still. I don't want backup whole 50GB of data I don't have even place for that.
If you have another iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 11, iPadOS 13, or later, you can use Quick Start to automatically set up your new device. Bring the two devices close together, then follow the onscreen instructions to securely copy many of your settings, preferences, and iCloud Keychain. You can then restore the rest of your data and content to your new device from your iCloud backup.
Or, if both devices have iOS 12.4, iPadOS 13, or later, you can transfer all your data wirelessly from your previous device to your new one. Keep your devices near each other and plugged into power until the migration process is complete.
my app adds various items to its keychain and when doing an iTunes backup and restore, it successfully restores the keychain items provided the iTunes backup is encrypted. Works great!
However I can't seem to be able to restore my app's keychain when doing an iCloud backup and then restoring to a different iPhone. Is there a way of specifying that the iCloud backup is encrypted in such a way that apps' keychains are backed up and restored properly when using iCloud backup/restore function?
Be aware that users can opt out of iCloud Keychain, in which case your keychain items will not be available after a restore from an iCloud backup (and, for that matter, a restore from a no-password iTunes backup).
Is this a definitive statement that no matter what the iOS settings and whether your key has the Accessible attribute set to one of the options that does not end with ThisDeviceOnly, that Keychain entries are never backed up to iCloud? I'm having the same problem and the kSecAttrSynchronizable attribute was the only solution I found, but it seemed more like a workaround like you described.

Actually, what I posted earlier was incorrect. I had a re-read of the iOS Security document, which has a specific section on iCloud Backup. That makes it clear that iCloud Backup acts like an iTunes backup without a password: the keychain items are included in the backup but they are wrapped with a device-specific key. Thus, they can only be restored to the device that originally backed them up, which means that they get lost when you restore the backup to a different device (which is how you tested this).
Once again you've cleared up all my issues. Thank you. I thought that by specifying the kSecAttrSynchronizable key with value of true for my various keychain items I'd be able to have them saved in the backup and then restored to another device. After many tests I found this not to be the case and assumed I was not doing something properly. (And of course I was - I misunderstood what the kSecAttrSynchronizable was for).
This means that my app which has data stored in the keychain can only be backed up and restored using iTunes encrypted backups. That works great. It's a shame that there is no way to preserve the keychain data using iCloud backups to be restored to a different device. Now, I'm going to have to rip that data out of the keychain and store it in a data file.
Why oh why couldn't there have been a simple option for the user to encrypt the backup's keychain data with a password, so that if the password was not specified when doing the restore to another device, the keychain data wouldn't be propagated, but if the user specified the password then the keychain data would've been restored as well.
It appears that more and more people opt for using iCloud backups instead of iTunes because of the simplicity. That iCloud backups have no option for saving/restoring apps' keychain items across devices is awful.
will you fix this in the next update. Right after I updated to the most recent beta update, my key chain would not populate full info. Just the user name but not passwords . I did get this info elavated to the developer team but I also had other issues that my cell number could not be changed as well in the keychain text you a conformation number . I do not have access to cell no more . That was a big issue for me today .
