What is practical value of having ability to use AI models from Harbour applications ?

I am asking this because we have many internet pages where we can easily type questions to ChatGPT, DeepSeek, or some other AI model.

Now I can not see what are frequent situations in which our users need to communicate with AI model from our Harbour application. May be some types of Harbour applications needs this, but I can not recognize them.

AI models are tool, and nothing else. Did I misjudged this phenomenon ?  Is it yet another sensation in IT area ?

Thank you for your opinion.

Dear Simo,

When you use AI from a website you are the "agent". You need something, you ask for it and you decide how to use what you get.

When you use AI from an app you are combining the power of the programming language with the power of AI, and thus you get a much more powerful "AI agent".

There are endless cases where you can use AI from an app and then decide what to do, based on the AI result. It can answer an email, it can write an email, it can analyse a "balance sheet" and advise about it.
It can analyse sales and incomes. It can check medical facts and provide advise. It can brief a conversation and later save that brief into a database. You can automatically document code, ask about database queries results, etc. etc.
The more you start using it the more ideas will come to your mind.

An app is a very "active and powerful AI agent". We have been many years without having this huge power. Now it is the right time to start using it.

Keep in mind that a developer using AI is much more productive than a developer without it. So don't miss the oportunity.

Thank you Antonio.

Obviously I didn't see broader picture on this subject. AI agents is new term for me. It needs time to gather more knowledge about AI agents, and then start with small and simple example in the area of interest. Then making it more and more autonomous.

For sure it is not as our former programming practice. It is more complex. Many of us will rely on classes you develop and share with Harborians.

Somewhere I read something like this: AI will not replace humans or completely steal its jobs. It will turn of some of them but will open many new working positions, but will require next level of knowledge to be able to take them.

That also applies to application development.

Regards,

Simo.
