Hello everyone. After receiving a symmetric 1Gbps fiber connection, a friend asked me: « If I have free storage in the cloud, why not run our application there and it will always be available for free? » First, I thought it was not logical, but if we get that free space as a local network unit (similar to WindowsSever or Linux+Samba) ... Why not? Well, in the end it got intrigued and the result is that thanks to https://www.raidrive.com/ ... Yes, I did it! (slower, but it works) Someone has tried this option too? I'm sorry if I look a bit silly but I'm semi-retired and I'm still surprised by some things ... Objective: Increase speed opening DBF's. I do not think it will work either ADS or LETODB. Any other option? Yes, in X years we can have 10Gbps, but is it possible before? ;) XD Thank you all

Hi Yakano,

Maybe this can work for a personal address book .. for sample.
But it's NOT suitable for MULTIUSER/MULTIACCESS record locking.

You see:

Here, I have a 10GB fiber connection:

C:\Users\TilZim>ping drive.google.com

Pinging drive.google.com [172.217.28.78] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 172.217.28.78: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=54
Reply from 172.217.28.78: bytes=32 time=28ms TTL=54
Reply from 172.217.28.78: bytes=32 time=21ms TTL=54
Reply from 172.217.28.78: bytes=32 time=40ms TTL=54

30ms ping + platform (google drive/one drive/dropbox) user autentication per access  + Slowishhh HTTP/S protocol overhead .... while in a typical hard disk we get less than < 3 ms instantaneous access.

Hello Antonio. Thanks for your answer.
I just tried that the access worked, opening the DBF in shared mode and that could modify a record (previous blocking, in fact I did not change anything in the previous code). It worked so slow, I did not try multiuser / multiaccess. It was just a crazy attempt, which made me think that it could give more.
Regards!

Yakano,

Since Google Drive/Dropbox/Onedrive acts only like an external disk, you can't run a Database server like Mysql/Postgres/Sqlite on it ...
Dropbox is a file server and not a cloud aplicattion server like Amazon web, Microsoft Azure, Windows Server 2008/2012 ... etc.
