Harbour Beginners' Guide

Hello all,

 

I am happy to announce a new version of the ‘Harbour Beginners’ Guide’

It is my humble contribution to Harbour.

Any suggestions or corrections are welcome.

My idea is to be able to add it to the Harbour website (via GitHub) – if the developers agree with it, of course.

 

You will find it in different forms (experimental) here:

• chm
• pdf
• html
• book online
• book exe (7z)

I hope it will help someone.

Hello Marek,

I really would like to but... I have to admit I do not know much about Linux
and unfortunately I do not have knowledge to make such a guide for Linux.

Maybe if someone that has knowledge and wants to prepare at least a draft
and send it to me with screen shoots then I can make the guide based on
that... in other words I offer the edition and publication but I don't have
the know-how to do a guide for Linux... or someone could just make the whole
thing...

I have a vague idea that maybe in Linux there are more factors to consider
depending of the distribution, etc... but it would be very interesting to
have something for Linux. I am one that would be interested.

I improved a bit the guide and added few more information.

Added a "cover" for the PDF and "book" versions

Added a "mobile" version of the "book".

• html mobile

• book online
• book exe (7z)

Hello Qatan,

Apologies for the delay, but I have been caught up with other things.  I have gone through your guide and made suggestions - marked in blue - to improve the English. I copied the text from the PDF document so the layout is not as it should be.  I will have a go at writing an intro to the preprocessor and commands soon - maybe this weekend.

Appreciate your efforts and you are correct in thinking a Linux Harbour user needs to at least write an appendix covering Linux use.

I think the version I marked up is the latest - I downloaded a copy this morning and rechecked and marked that version up as the final release copy.  I will cross check though to be sure, as in coding mistakes happen!
