Dear harbor hoolguns! specially from p.

The harbor is thought to be a group that rallied around the commercial demise of the Clipper.

But I get the feeling that the armband-wearing hooligans have been acting like occupiers lately. What has your contribution been?

How much have you disclosed the source of the programs you sell?

Is there a difference?

No more hooliganism or Hitlerism, you idiots. It's disgusting.

Regards,
Charles KWOn

Don't be so angry, Charles. I still had no time to try your contribution
but I will for sure, and I appreciate your work and your willingness to
contribute, and also I don't feel hurted if someone decides not to
publish the sources of his work, but still makes it available to others
for free. Maybe sources could be supplied after a
subscription/contribution. I don't see anything wrong in that.

I tried to do a similar thing with a collection of functions. I wanted
to share the lib but was not ready to release all the sources (mainly
because the code is a bit messy, but also I wanted to be sure that some
programmers, after having tried it, wanted to cooperate to the
development and not just exploit my work without even say thank you).

People here is used to have "everything for free", this is probably one
of the reasons for xHarbour at the end had to go out of business... ad
Viktor Szakats abandoned after his reasonable request for a
contribution, after having made a big work on Harbour to bring it to
version 3.4. I don't know.

For sure we programmers (hobbyists apart) ask for money to our
customers, and I remember to have paid for Clipper 5.2 and Clipper 5.3
(and also for other tools).

So, don't think that everybody here sees the world through the same
lens. The more vocals of them have spoken, but the silent majority dont.
Here in Italy there is a nice proverb: more or less in my basic English
it sounds "A single tree falling makes more noise than an entire forest
that grows up"

Peace,

Dan

Harbour would advance much further if it committed to paying those who work. Whoever works has the right to be paid if they wish. Who gives away their .exe executables to clients? There is a lot of hypocrisy among the totally free ones. My support for Charles.

A  mismatch on:
- native language spoken, it is difficult to convey a message without smiles and between different cultures. I'm Italian, I may translate into english a sentence  that in Italian may sound nice, you read it and translate into your language and it may be harsh or offensive. Another lib was presented "that is open source then better". I didn't test Charles lib, I tested this one and the code needs some love.. :-)))

- free vs paid software, open vs close source: Charles proposed a lib for creating xlsx files, closed source and paid for, with support. Perfectly legit. Somebody said something that probably due to the point above sounded harsh. Another lib was presented "that is open source then better". I didn't test Charles lib, I tested this one and the code needs some love.. :-)))
In the thread in Spanish there is a discussion about different libraries to develop web applications with harbour, with different features and use cases. Among them, UT. It seems interesting, for web development, with a pdf manual of tens of pages. And the question was "where are the source?" :-)

I probably won't use Charles language but it must be clear that if I want to publish a closed source lib and getting paid for it, I must be able to do so without getting hit by angry messages.
I'd have no obligations to publish my code.

Just to say that probably Charles lib wasn't necessarily paid for, but closed source and with his name inside the pdf, something like pdf created by...
