Hi all
I'm new to Harbour and I tried to install it from source on my Ubuntu 64 bit pc, but didn't mange to compile.
Trying to following the documentation I've found, this has been my steps:
sudo apt-get install git
git clone http://github.com/harbour/core.git harbour
sudo apt-get install subversion
cd harbour
svn checkout svn://svn.code.sf.net/p/qtcontribs/code/trunk qtcontrib
sudo apt-get install bash git gcc binutils fakeroot debhelper valgrind upx uncrustify
sudo apt-get install libssl-dev libpq-dev unixodbc-dev libmysqlclient15-dev libmagic-dev libgs-dev libgd2-xpm-dev libfreeimage-dev firebird2.1-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev libncurses-dev libslang2-dev libx11-dev libgpm-dev liballegro4.2-dev libcairo2-dev libcups2-dev

The first problem is that if I try to install libqt5-dev (as stated in README.md), it returns that this package is not existent.
As a result, this error stop the make command:
moc: could not exec '/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/qt4/bin/moc': No such file or directory

Any suggestion?

TIA
Alessandro

You must uninstall qt4 and install qt5
I had a lot of problems, so I don't do it again ...
As now, qtcontribs is no more qt4 compliant, I use no more qtcontribs ...

Have a look to /usr/bin, there is perhaps a link to /usr/lib/...../moc

Try also to install qt5 with:

sudo apt-get install qt5

Thanks for your interest in my problems
Let's go 1 step back: what I would like id to use harbour (I used Clipper and now I'm on Visual Object) and preferably using linux; I also would like to make application for android. I saw that QT designer could be used and it looks like a good thing (isn't it?).
Am I going in a wrong direction?
Alain, it seems that you use linux: what is your configuration? What you use to make the GUI part of your applications?
I've seen on youtube making a stupid program with QT and harbour using linux that convinced me to try: what I'm doing wrong that cannot make the harbour compilation?
Thanks for you help and suggestion

Hi all

I am using Harbour 3.0 on Ubuntu Linux 64 bit.  Harbour 3.0 builds fine from source.
I don't use any version of qt but use GTK+ instead (currently version 2).  I wrote my own
GTK+ library for Harbour.  There are GTK+ libraries for Harbour available.  This has
proven to be very stable.  To date there hasn't been any "must have" feature for me to
feel the need to go to a current Harbour release.  My suggestion is to get Harbour
compiled and working first and then add the GUI layer of your choice.

Regards
Doug

No, you are on the right path.

Harbour and HbQt is ready for production use on Android,
or for that matter, any mobile platform. If your goal is
developing only on Linux OS, then folks here are already
trying to get you a solution. If you intend to develop on
Windows, then you can get a lot info here:

You can find there almost complete tutorial how to develop
on Android platform.

I also come from a clipper / visual objects background. I develop on ubuntu 64bit. console apps, but have not been able to get harbor qt working for android. (multi platform for mobile would be awesome).

I am also waiting with a lot of excitement hoping someone can give me a easy to follow guide on how to get this running.

Thanks Pritpal for your answer.
I looked (again) to harbour few time ago and i've been enthusiastic of a video of Qt and Harbour on Linux and I told me give it a try. I'm sad that I come in a moment (i hope a moment) that there is not full compatibility between the two projects, but for what i've seen Qt is very good and adopted by a lot of programmers of several languages => there is a future for it.

At the moment, I will begin to give a try to Harbour and Qt on Windows on a VM and when the Linux version will be ready I'll turn on it I'm curious to write my first app for Android :-)

It would be wonderful if there where some more indication on main Harbour web site on how to install step by step everything, with some suggestion from conrib lib authors.
Thanks to all

Right, after that:

; WARNING: now onwards Qt 4x support is dropped altogether.

i also somehow lost interest even only occasionally watching what's happening with qtcontribs.

A tip for you, if you not already know, simply add a:

@316

to the svn url-path, to check out the version before. This way you should be able to work with that version -- hopefully .. ;-)

For debugging you IMHO can use Kresin's original concept of a standalone debugger, without the full overhead of an IDE.

My commandline is :

svn co http://svn.code.sf.net/p/qtcontribs/code/trunk .

I have tried it in a new folder, and I have these returns:

/svn: '@316' est une révision fixée. Essayer '@316@' à la place ?//
//...//
//alain@Gramps-JujuLand:~/Documents/qttest$ svn co
http://svn.code.sf.net/p/qtcontribs/code/trunk . @316//
//.....//
//Révision 353 extraite.//
//svn: '' ne semble pas être une URL//
/
If I understand, 316 is a version qt4 compatable, and svn find the last
version compatable with 316 ?
Right ?
So the last version usable with qt4 ought to be 353 ?
Am I right or not ?
Thanks to explain it more to an old brain ...

I have a version of hbide which works (r274), but I don't use it often,
as I often write little tools without graphic interface.
I remember having tried it, there is a few time, but I don't remember
the results. I will try again ...

Thanks for the tips

The problem I notice with harbours debugger, is that it's only optimized
for standard console size 24x20 (or perhaps 25x80), and if we have
largest console size, the display is a little trash. Perhaps only under
Linux ?

No problems, as clear as the application.

If screen resolution is much lower than 25x80, the menu at top will get horizontal space problems.
Then you e.g. won't be able to see all menu-points ;-)
With higher resolutions zero problems.
101x35 is my personal default, fullscreen over two monitors: 45*265, all crystal clear.

Okay, you found another cause for hwgdebug: to debug a 5x10 application :-)

My tool was just build using this command line:

hbmk2 -b ad24.prg

I tried adding -gttrm (which seems to be default value), -gtxwc : same
result

https://www.dropbox.com/s/grr9l3zu50aqsxi/hb_debugger_bad%20display.png?dl=0

I can't for now use gtqtc, as the last builds broke it.

Gnome terminal in Ubuntu 12.04 is known buggy !

a:) you send me the identical link to dropbox 2 times

b:) for gttrm [=default] you only can try to change default font for terminal.

It should be a so called 'fixed font'. Fixed font mean all chars uses the same width, and NOT an 'I' is displayed smaller as an 'E'.

These have the word: 'mono' or 'console' in its name, e.g.: DejaVu Sans Mono

c:) that something with your font display is wrong, i definitely recognize at these small breaks/ interruptions between the boxchars.

That must be *continous* lines around the window areas. This causes further the 'distortion' we can see at screenshot.

d:) lastly shown font attributes for Harbour only work for gtxwc and gtqtc [and gtwvt, but that is Windows].

These attributes can correct a wrong behaviour even for non-fixed fonts, or if the font contains no 'box-chars'

e:) i ever use gtxwc or gtqtc, nearly never gttrm

f:) i overlooked: your first screenshot does *not* display a gtxwc window, but a terminal window.

Remember: hb_GtVersion() must respond with "XWC" or "QTC".

g:) even gttrm in terminal displays perfect ! at me

possible differences between us: i use KDE or XFCE4, other font, other terminal ..

h:) i strong dislike to google/ search how you can change your gnome settings.

How to get an gtxwc window running you should really know ..

really HTH

in two sentence:

if buggy ! gnome terminal sucks for any else than 80x25, concentrate on using gtxwc [gtqtc]

gtxwc correct it (what I saw before putting the second image made
without gt, but with lines added)
but there is always a size problem. Have a look to the third image I put
(to the same url)
The debugger don't use all the console size. The source box isn't as
large as the console, and there is like a command box under the active
command box.

It's not really important, the thing we need is that the debugger works
correctly, but it makes not really finished ...

I often don't build with gt, because when program is closed, I always
can read the program outputs, else, except if I put an inkey(0) before
quitting, all is lost. I don't think it's always necessary to have a log

it won't make me change for kde :) . I will see for xfce, as my computer
is too old and too tiny to accept ubuntu-gnome or ubuntu, and probably
also kde.

I don't want to change now, and I want to keep 12.04 as long as
possible. After, perhaps that my computer, which is now 6 years old, and
9 years old at the end of support of 12.04, be will be too much tricky
or perhaps dead ... and I don't talk about my age ... :)

Thanks

Hi Alain,

Yes for the link, but the image had changed.
yes, now i can see a gtxwc window -- and it looks not ! as it should be, you're right.

It's not really important, the thing we need is that the debugger works
correctly, but it makes not really finished ...
and the application appears fine, uses the whole screen ?
( as the debugger uses same GT to display its content .. )

Oh, beware !! -- this once so nice KDE got instable bloatware !
This change from extraordinary to spoiled garbage happend after version change to V4.
BTW, starting with V4 they started to use and highly integrate QT ........

I don't want to change now, and I want to keep 12.04 as long as
possible.
Correct ! -- because the Gnome desktop team, let's say, had run in their own direction, not all user will follow ;-)
But there are much more scary things going on in Linux world: i think of systemd ...

best regards

Probably you are exploiting some problem unknown for us yet.
Just like Rolf I use different console sizes and debugger always
cover whole available area wiothout any problems.
If you create self contain example then I can fix it.
Otherwise rather not. Just simply for me it works correctly.

Deciding to send you the three files which is part of my tool, I saw in
a file I use that I made an error creating a full cld file instead a
partial to just indicate the path of the source.

Here is the cld file I used : ad24.cld
<-- begin --------------------------------------------------------------->
Options Path /opt/TuxPrograms/GedTools/ad24
Options Colors
{"W+/BG","N/BG","R/BG","N+/BG","W+/B","GR+/B","W/B","N/W","R/W","N/BG","R/BG"}
Window Size 18 *80*
Window Move 1 0
Window Next
Window Size 5 *80*
Window Move 19 0
Window Next
<--- end ---------------------------------------------------------------->

Here is what I ought to use:

<-- begin --------------------------------------------------------------->
Options Path /opt/TuxPrograms/GedTools/ad24
Options Colors
{"W+/BG","N/BG","R/BG","N+/BG","W+/B","GR+/B","W/B","N/W","R/W","N/BG","R/BG"}
<--- end ---------------------------------------------------------------->

You probably will ask why I create and use such file instead of using
the one which ought to be create automatically.
The answer is here in the code:

<-- begin --------------------------------------------------------------->
if dbg
run("cp "+chome+"/harbour/cld/"+frad+".cld init.cld")
altd(1)
altd()
endif
<--- end ---------------------------------------------------------------->

As the source files aren't located in the same folder that the prog, I
can use debugger without having to locate all the prg used in the
program to test. The source path is autpmatically set.

Thanks to have clean my glasses, it seems to be enough :)

OK, so it's the reason of problem.
Fixed window sizes stored in init.cld file.
We should remember about it if someone else reports similar problem.
