Acertificate has been one of the most requested features, and we're happy to announce that a test with a printable certificate is now available! The certification test consists of 5 minutes of typing predefined source text in English. Read more..

Compete against other talented typists around the globe and show where the best typists come from. Each country has its own league and you can advance higher in the rankings by completing races and collecting points. Start the Race!

The award-winning online typing competition, TypeRacer, is the best free typing game in the world. It is the first-ever multiplayer typing game, which lets you race against real people typing quotes from books, movies, and songs.

Your typing speed will improve by at least 10 WPM if you play this free game at least once a week. TypeRacer is much more fun than just a free typing test. It's better to practice typing on typeracer.com than any free typing program or typing tutor. The consensus is clear: among computer typing games, TypeRacer is king!

Don't wait to get started: the road to becoming a touch typing master is long, but at least TypeRacer makes it fun and easy. To be clear, TypeRacer is not an easy typing game, but it will actually make you a better typist than those easy typing games for kids. It makes you type the same sort of text you would see at typing jobs.

Don't know how to type yet? Then learn to type! Just grab a free typing tutor or read a free typing tutorial. There are many free typing lessons on the web. You can also just download Mavis Beacon if you prefer.

Already know how to type? Then just have fun! TypeRacer is one of the best free online games, so why play any other addicting games which don't improve your typing speed in the process? You can quit those other computer games, flash games, facebook games, and kids games, and get focused on TypeRacer: the game that is actually good for you!

Current typing text options include random common English words, random easy words, books, book summaries short stories, fables, sight words for kids, random interesting and funny facts, random wise proverbs, and even the ability to type whatever you want with the custom text option.

At any point in time both entry modes provide, at a minimum, the next 2-3 words (21 characters to be precise) so you can always be looking ahead at the next words to type - a useful skill in learning to type faster.

Typing speed is calculated according to the most widely accepted method where a 'word' is assumed an average of 5 characters (spaces included) with every error (per minute) being a 1 WPM deduction. Nearly all other significant statistics are also reported, allowing for a more custom calculation as well.

By Monday I was at a level resembling a very slow touch typist. Forthe rest of the first week I followed all the lessons up through thenumber keys, never progressing past an exercise until I had exceededthe target speed with at least 90% accuracy. This was now enough toget me back on my feet for programming at a glacial, frustrating pace.Programming involves a lot more numbers and symbols than other kindsof typing, making that top row so important. For a programmer, itwould probably be better for these lessons to be earlier in theseries.

Thanks for your answer Chris. Your suggestion works just fine for small amounts of text, but I am using the typing for simulating a user that enters one line at a time (containing something like 30 characters), and he has many hundreds of lines to enter. So to take 1 character at a time and put a delay after it would just not work.

I have all my text i a text file. On a hot key trigger I am going to that text file and copying one line, then I go back automatically to my target application and insert that line of text by simulating typing. I works fine except that the speed of typing is too high.

Hi Michael, My problem is NOT that I need delay between the lines, since I am controlling it myself (each time i press on my hot key F9). The problem is that I need delay between the single characters. But maybe I do not understand you correctly. You are talking about a loop. What kind of loop are you referring to?

You see I am creating a Mathematica tutorial that I want to put on the YouTube. And I want to simulate what I would normally type in Mathematica, by getting the text from a text file and simulating typing. Here is the KM script I'm using now.

George, sorry, but I have to ask.

Do you really think the user cares if the typing looks too fast?

IMO, they don't need to see "normal" typing speed.

They just need to see what was typed, and then a brief delay so they can read it.

I am rather new to using KM, but nowhere in the world would I come up with looking in Keyboard Maestro/Set Action Delay. It seems that KM is much more powerful than I thought. KM is like a castle full of secret rooms and it takes time until one gets to know them. But thanks to this forum and people like yourself those secrets places can be revealed.

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to thank you all for this solution. "Set Action Delay" pulled up an option for "Simulate Normal Keystroke Delay". I set mine to 0.03 to be extra cautious and it works like a charm. In my case I'm trying to paste specifically created and copied names for files into save dialog boxes, and in some apps locked out of pasting. Without this delay KM was missing characters while "typing the clipboard" resulting in incorrect file names being created/saved.

I've been wrestling with a macro for hours and it seemed random when it worked and when it didn't. I was "typing" commands into MacVim to copy the text between matching curly braces in some JSON code. Sometimes the clipboard had the right text and sometimes it didn't have anything, sometimes it had my whole test file, it made no sense -- as long as I assumed that MacVim was actually getting all the "typed" characters.

Keyboarding activates the senses of sight, hearing, and touch (or "motoric" sense) simultaneously because it involves looking at the keyboard, listening to the sounds of the keys being struck, and physically pressing the keys with the fingers.

Digitalization has brought laptops, Chromebooks, PCs, and tablets into everyday use in schools. Even kindergartners are already using different devices to learn new things. The keyboard is an essential part of using digital devices, and practicing to touch-type is gaining more and more momentum. While the smallest of learners don't need to know how to touch-type when going to school, it's never too early to get familiar with the keyboard. Typewriter games on our website provide a welcome practice for learners, starting their keyboarding lessons later on. Studies show that kids build a positive, rewarding, and encouraging relationship for keyboarding through playing keyboard games.

Young learners can start with easy introductory games such as Key Memory Game, which improves both concentration and keyboarding skills. This brain game enables kids to train their memory, and the goal is to memorize and find pairs of the same cards and finally turn over pairs of matching cards with the keyboard. Kids are not required to know how to type, but they will start learning the keys on the keyboard, which helps when learning to touch-type later on.

Use technology: Use keyboarding software such as TypingMagic and online typing lessons such as TypingTrainer to supplement your in-class instruction and provide students with additional opportunities to practice their typing skills.

Advancing keyboarding skills is at the heart of many teachers. They want to see their kids type quickly, just as bad as each kid wants to be the fastest typist. Each gaming app associated with our website provides a different interface, theme, or strategy to be utilized when participating. Some videogames feature different levels from easy to hard. The differentiation between each level can help give students a goal to strive for. This keeps the kids interested and focused on the task at hand. If your school is already using a keyboarding program, our gaming site offers lots of extra material to keep students motivated.

Keyboarding is a skill everyone should be able to perform accurately, swiftly and automatically. Automaticity frees some of the limited capacity of short-term memory for other uses. Short-term memory, also frequently called working memory, is where learning and thinking activities occur.
