Is it possible to modify the firmware on the HappyBubbles to also track standard Bluetooth devices such as phones?  I use the bluetooth on my Pi with HomeAssistant to do  basic presence detection and it works incredibly well.  If HappyBubbles could add this capability, then we could also have location data in addition to presence.

Hi. HA sounds interesting.
Do you have a link for Bluetooth Smartphone presence detection?
Thx Best regards

I use HomeAssistant (https://www.home-assistant.io) running on a RaspberryPi.  There is a Bluetooth Presence component (not BLE) which will leverage the BT built into the Pi3.  https://www.home-assistant.io/components/device_tracker.bluetooth_tracker/

It works very reliably and I have it set up to turn off my  Christmas tree lights when I leave the house and turn them back on when I arrive.  I can see the lights change when I pull into the drive-way.

Sorry, the hardware itself is made only for BLE and not standard Bluetooth. There's nothing that can be done in the firmware to support Bluetooth classic and it would require new hardware and different Bluetooth modules. There are no plans to do this right now.
