You may have noticed that Happy Hacker has been down for quite awhile. We
got defaced by two fellows claiming to be Algerian hackers. Regardless of who
did it, our problem was that we were using Network Solutions for hosting our
site. As I now know, their computer security leaves quite a bit to be
desired.
Do any of you know where we could use an OpenBSD server on a T1
or better, and in a location that they don't have to worry about their Internet
connectivity being shut down for hosting a site that the folks who enforce terms
of service might assume encourages computer crime?
Also, I'm working to
bring the Happy Hacker site up to date. It has long held truly ancient files
(1996, yet!) such as how to forge email. Those early Guides to (mostly) Harmless
Hacking gave a window on an innocent time, back when junk emailers and organized
crime hadn't yet discovered the Internet. But thanks to the bad guys, most of
that fun and harmless stuff doesn't work any more.
Please feel free to
phone me if you can offer help, whether at reorganizing the site, getting a
secure place to host it, or if you have your own *harmless* hacking tutorials
you would like to contribute. Or you can email me at
carolyn...@gmail.com --
but I much prefer voice communications.
Thank you all in advance for your
patience, and hoping for a new lease on life for our Guides to (mostly) Harmless
Hacking!
