Currently we (HAPIA) are looking for stories from the public on places
in Edmonton, the
lesser known places and stories on possible hauntings and experiences.
We are in
the midst of writing a book of our investigations. We are collecting
stories, history and
following up with an investigation and our findings.

Hey there!

I just found your website and this forum and I must say I am intrigued.
I live in downtown Edmonton, and I'm familiar with McKay School and
Naked Cyber Cafe, so it was interesting to read your investigations. I
have two stories for you, one from McKay school.

In August of 2006, my fiancé and I went to tour McKay school. We had
walked through the whole school and didn't feel anything out of the
ordinary until I started to head towards the basement (not knowing it's
locked to the public). I stopped dead in my tracks, feeling like it
was not a good place to go. It wasn't a feeling of evil or danger,
just a feeling of being unwelcome and frowned upon. Anyways, when we
were on the top floor of the school we read about "Peter" (my fiancé
read the article first, then me, which is located at about the middle
of the North wall), a man who had died during the renovations to the
school, some 90 years ago, by falling from the roof. We were up there
totally by ourselves, even the employees were on the floors below us
and there were no other tourists. After reading about Peter, I grinned
and looked at my fiancé saying "Peter" in a ghostly voice. Not two
seconds later we both heard a noise come from the South-West corner of
the room, like a quiet clap. Both of us turned around to look and saw
nothing, so we started to walk towards the noise. It happened again,
and started to occur at a faster pace. As we slowly passed the middle
of the room the noise started to move around us and get closer. The
last clap came from directly to my right and about 15 feet away, which
would put it in the middle of several rows of chairs. We both turned
and headed for the stairs to head down to the employees, not scared,
but feeling a little unwelcome again. As we were leaving I told two of
the employees who were near the door this story. Suffice to say, they
both looked surprised and a little frightened.

My second story involves an apartment building in Clareview, Edmonton.
It was the first apartment my then girlfriend (now fiancé) and I
shared. Now, I have experienced paranormal phenomena my whole life,
and it seems to run in my family. As a result, I believe that people
can be born as naturally attractive to different sources of energy -
and what gets attracted depends on the focus of the person's energy.
In contrast, my fiancé is the typical type of person, a little skeptic
but interested, and having never experienced something before. But
after being with me for almost six years now she believes in paranormal
activities, and this story (which is actually a series of events) is
what convinced her.

We moved into the apartment on New Year's Eve, 2001, and moved out on
October 30, 2002. For the first few months, nothing much happened.
Living in an apartment building by a major traffic route, you write-off
a lot of noises. As the year progressed, I had a lot of stressful
events come my way, such as finding out my mother had breast cancer.
So, my understanding is I attract energy, and as I became more stressed
out the energy became more evident. It started while we were sitting
on a large couch in our living room talking when the TV turned on and
was nothing but static. Two things here: it came on by itself, and we
had cable, so there was no reason it was all static. My fiancé
thought I was pulling a prank on her but when she saw my face - I
recognized instantly that my energy was very high and that these
occurrences tend to happen when my energy is high - I was surprised and
speechless. She became shaken and asked me again, which is when I
pointed at the TV remote - on top of a shelving unit in such a location
that it would be impossible for me to get to it, turn the TV on and put
the remote back without her seeing me. To calm her down I started to
explain my belief around the energy levels when the TV turned off.
Over the course of thirty minutes, it turned on and off three times.

As time went on, the occurances started getting more physical. We
washing dishes together in the kitchen when a large glass pitcher
crashed at my feet, and shards cut my ankle. Now, considering
vibration from traffic and daily life, looking at where the pitcher
was, it would have had to move approximately seven inches before
falling. Since we were doing dishes and putting them away, I would've
noticed it teetering on the edge of the shelf and corrected it. So we
don't chalk it up to vibration.

Another while later, after another dish washing session, we were
sitting in our bedroom when we heard a crash from the kitchen. Running
in to investigate, a pile of plates from the dish washing session that
afternoon fell to the floor from the counter top. You count write that
off as vibration because 1) it was a pile of plates (6 or 7 plates) so
it's heavy, 2) the pile was put on the counter top less than an hour
earlier - minor vibration could not make it move that far that fast 3)
only the two of us occupied the apartment - no roommates or pets.

Since we've moved from that apartment occurrences have been rare. My
gut feeling is that I have grown accustom to a new, higher level of
energy (via stress), and that the apartment in this story was a strong
focal point for energy.

Thanks for posting on our board and sharing your experiences! The
McKay school is definately somwhere we would like to investigate again,
and there are many stories about 'peter', including on one tour we were
hosting, someone might have recorded a hammering noise in the washroom
upstairs, which used to be the infirmary - where peter died. He didn't
die immediately from his fall - but died later in what is now the mens
and ladies washrooms on the upper floor. We like hearing others
experiences in McKay School.

Its quite interesting we are getting lots of requests for
investigations in the clareview area of edmonton, the other hot spots
right now seem to be downtown and of course old strathcona.

About energies, there have been studies on how a persons energies might
affect the environment they are in (we are hoping to do a few
experiments this year regarding this). We know someone who has had
these things happen to her too . In fact she was sitting in her living
room one night when she was very high strung and in her words 'not a
happy camper' basically she was angry. A wine glass that was set in
her desk where her computer is - flew out of the shelves and smashed at
her feet. Not 15 minutes later - a glass ornament on her tree came
flying at her. This could be explained, but we ruled out, as in your
case, vibrations, etc. So it would be interesting to see what we come
up with - if anything.
