Present but Null vs Not Present

Hello!

We are working on building a FHIR interface for OpenMRS (www.openmrs.org) and was wondering, when sending a FHIR request to update an existing resource, is there a way to distinguish between a value that wasn’t supplied at all and a value that was explicitly set to a blank value?
