Dear DS Lab,
I’m writing regarding some recent violations of the DS Lab User Agreement and the disciplinary actions we’ve taken against those who’ve violated it.
Over the past two months, a handful of active DS Lab students and graduates have posted lesson and assignment notebooks on their personal GitHub accounts. In several of these cases, students had deleted the “Usage Guidelines” in the notebooks that explicitly prohibit such actions, suggesting they had understood they were in violation of the University’s policies.
We take these infractions very seriously. In nearly all these cases, the students were expelled from the Program. We also rescinded graduates' Credly certificates.
To be clear, possessing DS Lab materials anywhere other than on your WQU virtual machine is a violation of the User Agreement that every student signs when they join the Program.
Publishing WQU's intellectual property without permission not only violates the Copyright Law; it also indirectly encourages others to not take the University's policies seriously, which degrades the integrity and quality of education that we strive to provide to all our students.
We will continue to actively monitor the situation and to take all necessary actions to ensure the University’s policies are upheld by everyone in our community.
Sincerely,
Nicholas Cifuentes-Goodbody
