honestech VHS to DVD Deluxe is a program that provides everything you need to easily convert your videos to digital formats. You can capture old VHS, Beta, 8mm or camcorder tapes and convert them to DVD, Blu-ray or other digital formats, enhance your DVD/Blu-ray Disc menu pages by adding motion and music.
In regards to documentation, honestech does an excellent job of providing the user with options. They include an 18-page Quick Start Guide which covers the basics to get you started quickly. In addition to the Quick Start Guide, they include an in-depth 67-page user manual. The Quick Start Guide and User Manual are printed, paper copies, which I prefer as opposed to the electronic, soft copy manuals.
The Audio Recorder function is fairly limited, especially since the audio quality is locked in at 56Kbps. This is way too low to capture your favorite tunes at a good quality. It almost feels like beta software that honestech just threw in to sweeten the pot.
A feature that I like is that honestech Video Editor provides two operating modes: easy and advanced. This makes the application easy to operate for those who are just learning the ropes, but also versatile enough for the more experienced users who require advanced functions.
An important advantage for honestech Video Editor is that it provides numerous transition and video effects, thus helping you give a professional look to your videos. Moreover, this program will also help you easily add intros and endings, with just a few clicks of the mouse button. Another plus is that the program conveniently allows you to preview the changes that you make in real time.
From my perspective, a clear disadvantage for honestech Video Editor is its lack of tooltips. This shortcoming will considerably slow down your workflow, at least until you get familiar with the function of each one of its buttons.
