The machine I have is an AS-200/233 and the video card is Digital
ELXp-E2, running the latest ARC firmware. According to the RedHat
documentation I need the "avanti" milo image. However I am not sure if
I am creating the MILO disk right.
At first I tried using rawrite.exe to put both the avanti file and
linload.exe on a disk. Didn't work: File structure not recognized under
ARC.
Then I simply copied linload.exe and avanti using DOS. It seemed to
work: linload.exe was executing and loading avanti to memory address
x080000 (not sure what that means)... then the screen became a big blur
and the whole machine hangs.
At this point I suspect one of the following is the culprit:
- I did not create the MILO disk properly
- the video card is not supported (???)
Any help is much appreciated!!!
Paul
PS: the Redhat CD actually came with two "avanti" files: \milo\avanti
and \images\avanti.img. I am not sure what's the difference, if there's
any

All you need to do to create a MILO diskette is to format a 1.44MB floppy
with DOS/Win95/NT/etc. Use DOS copy or mcopy to copy linload.exe
to the disk. Then DOS/mcopy your milo image onto the disk as "milo".
That is, milo image should have the filename milo on the MILO diskette.
DO NOT use rawrite for MILO. RH5.1 installation instructions was not very
clear on this. I finally figured it out. You will need rawrite/dd for
the boot and ram disks.
