Hannah Frank News December 2011
News of special offer on prints, and a plethora of exhibitions in 2012!
Welcome to some new subscribers who found us at the Country Life exhibition at Glasgow’s SECC. And thanks to Tim Street, who started as a volunteer on the Glasgow Autumn Trade Fair Hannah Frank stand in September and by November was the chief stand-holder. (Congratulations too Tim on your recent Happy Event).
As always, please let me know if you’d like to come off this list.
You wait for a year and a half for a Hannah Frank art exhibition, and then three come along at once!
NEW EXHIBITIONS IN GLASGOW FOR 2012
I am very happy to announce a first for us – that a set of Hannah Frank framed prints will go on show in the West End of Glasgow during January and February. This exhibition will take place upstairs in the restaurant area of the Curlers Rest, Byres Road, Glasgow G12 8SH. YOU are cordially invited to the opening night of this exhibition which will take place on the evening of Tuesday 10th January. We’re hoping to reach new audiences and old friends with this show in a “comfy Glasgow pub with a cultural edge”.
Linked to this show, and either taking place at the end of January, or at the beginning of March – watch this space for exact dates - the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts in the Kelly Gallery, Douglas Street in the city centre is to hold an exhibition of Hannah’s original drawings, family sketches, and bronze sculptures. Hannah’s work was last seen at the RGI in 2006, when the show was rated as one of Glasgow’s Top Ten Must See activities in ‘The List’ what’s on guide. Hannah Frank exhibited every year for 49 consecutive years in the Royal Glasgow Institute annual shows. This will be her third solo show at the RGI. Since the last RGI show, a set of pastel drawings which Hannah did as an exercise in her life drawing classes at the Glasgow School of Art have come to light – there’s always something new in the world of Hannah Frank art.
I am looking for some Glasgow-based volunteers to help with the logistics for
these two shows. Help will include general
humping, helping with hanging, helping with publicity and putting up posters, and
generally being creative and friendly on the opening nights.
Do get in touch if you’re interested (there’s a signed print in it for three kind volunteers).
NEW HANNAH FRANK A COUP FOR ARTERIA GALLERY 23 IN LANCASTER
And the third show....
We are delighted to announce that a Hannah Frank exhibition will form the first show of the season for independent retail outlet Arteria in Lancaster. Arteria has a lovely gallery – Gallery23 – which showcases work by leading artists. The exhibition will feature Hannah Frank framed prints and cards, and two bronze sculptures. Lancaster has not had a chance to see Hannah Frank bronzes on show since the exhibition at Lancaster City Art Gallery and Museum in 2004.
Cards
and notelets will be on sale at the exhibition, which runs from 7/8th January - 24/25th March 2012.
BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE…
Throughout December and January we are offering ‘two for the price of one’ on Hannah Frank prints. The cheaper print is free – just pay for the most expensive one through the website gallery online shop, and write in the ‘comments’ box the name of the print you’d like as your ‘buy one get one free’ choice. We can post your order by special delivery to arrive in time for Christmas/Chanukah, or you can collect from Lancaster or Glasgow. Just get in touch to arrange a convenient time and place.
BOSTON TRIP
I’m just back from two weeks in Boston, Mass, where I hung out for a while at the Hadassah Brandeis Institute at Brandeis University, stayed as a guest at Cambridge Cohousing, and interviewed some Scottish Jewish expats. It was lovely to meet so many people all over Boston who were familiar with my aunt’s art and remembered the 2007 exhibition there. Hannah Frank is truly international!
Happy Hanukah, Merry Christmas, Season’s Greetings,
