Hannah Frank news, November 2013 - an evening at Westacres, two for the price of one prints, free Olympia art and antique fair tickets, and lots more

Hannah Frank News November 2013

AN EVENING AT WESTACRES

On Wednesday 13 November I will be presenting an evening on The Art of Hannah Frank at Westacres, Newton Mearns, Glasgow, where Auntie Hannah lived during her last years. There will be a screening of the film ‘Hannah Frank, The Spark Divine’ by award-winning filmmaker Sarah Thomas, and I'll be talking about the  'mission to make Hannah Frank a household name in her lifetime, and beyond'.  Prints, cards, books and sculptures will be on sale,  with some funds going to Newark Care to help to support Westacres, where my aunt and uncle were very happy in their last years.  Do come along, at 7 p.m. for 7.30 p.m.  There will be a charge of £5.00 and refreshments will be provided.  RSVP to Westacres, 0141 616 5100.  Westacres Care Home, 3 Westacres Road, Glasgow, G77 6WW.

OFFER: 2 FOR 1 ON PRINTS
As we hurtle towards Christmas and Chanukah we have a ‘two for the price of one’ print offer for you. Prints make fabulous presents and may also spark off an urge to build a complete Hannah Frank collection!  Signed prints cost between £100 and £400 depending on availability.  A small number of unsigned prints which were reproduced in my aunt's lifetime cost £25 (Sun, The Mocking Fairy, Dusty Answer); others are printed to order as one-offs on high quality heavy art paper and cost £75.00. See the webshop at   http://hannahfrank.org.uk/pages/gallery/prints/index.htm

FREE ENTRY TO THE 23RD WINTER FINE ART AND ANTIQUES FAIR, LONDON
Art expert Fiona MacSporran, whose input was very much valued by my aunt when she was alive, runs DECORATIVE ARTS @ DOUNE with her partner Gordon Foster.  They have a stand at the Winter Fine Art & Antiques Fair at the National Hall of Olympia in Hammersmith, London.  They have already sold one Hannah Frank sculpture on the first day of the show but there'll be a chance to see 'Bird Woman' from 1969 on the Decorative Arts at Doune stall. .  The fair runs to Sunday 10 November 2013.  You can visit the fair free as the guest of Fiona MacSporran: let me know and I'll email you an invitation which admits two visitors. It’s a fabulous offer as entry to the fair normally costs £15.  Just print it out before you go.
Visitors to the fair will see over 30,000 pieces of art and decorative objects this year, all under one roof.
Olympia Exhibition Centre, National Hall, Hammersmith Road, London, W14 8UX. See the website at http://www.olympia-antiques.com/homepage  for full details. If you go, have a great time!

DAY TRIP TO THE NAIL FACTORY AND GLENKILN SCULPTURE PARK
A group of us went on an art-filled jaunt in August.  We were very lucky with the weather - rainy when we were inside The Nail Factory, where Hannah’s latest exhibition ran, and sunny when we got out! We received a lovely welcome from The Nail Factory and it was really special to watch the film ‘The Spark Divine’ with someone who had been to Hannah's school at almost the same time and knew all the teachers she was talking about!
We then had a four mile walk through the Glenkiln Sculpture Park, on the Lincluden Estate by the Glenkiln Reservoir in Shawhead, Dumfries and Galloway. This was simply stunning. Our guide was writer, Mary Smith. The bronzes in the park are by Hannah's main influences - Epstein, Henry Moore and Rodin. The park made national news when a Henry Moore sculpture was stolen just weeks later. ‘Standing Figure’, created in 1950, was one of four Moore pieces in the park.

HANNAH FRANK IN SWEDISH PRESS
A Swedish-Jewish culture publication, The Jewish Chronicle, is to feature one of Hannah’s drawings. The editor Jackie Jakubowski, spotted Night Forms from 1932, online. He described it as “a wonderful drawing.” The Swedish Jewish Chronicle is a sister paper to the British version, which has featured Hannah’s work extensively in the past.
