How to Backup a Website:

This guide will help you make a backup of your website using Handy Backup v.6 or v.7. Let's split the task into two, based on type of data you'll need to backup in order to successfully secure your website.

1. Files.

You should know the following information (it is usually received from hosting provider):
Website address.
Protocol used for access to website files: FTP, SFTP, FTPS.
Port number, login and password.

Now open Handy Backup interface and create a new backup task. On the 2nd step (what to backup) double-click FTP, SFTP or FTPS depending on the protocol used to access your website data and double-click “New configuration”.

Please fill in the following fields in the new window:

Server: your website address
Port: port number
User: login
Password: password
Remote dir: leave blank

When you are done, press the “Test connection” button. If everything was done correctly, you will be informed about success.
Press “OK” and follow the other wizard steps.

We advise to use incremental backup for this task.

2. Databases.

First of all, the website designer should provide you with the following information:
Database type.
Name of your database server.
Authentication information (usually login and password) for your database.

Usually you’ll need to install ODBC backup driver for your database first. You can easily find ODBC driver for your type of database in any search engine.
When ODBC driver is installed you need to setup an ODBC-connection. You can find a detailed guide on ODBC connections on eHOW.com or many other websites.
Now, when ODBC-connection is configured, create a new backup task. On the second step double-click “Database”, choose your data source and follow the other wizard steps.

Restoring a website.

Now you have two backup tasks which will save your website from wide variety of troubles.
If anything happens, you can easily restore your data by right-clicking on each of these backup tasks and choosing “Restore”.
