I've relied on HB for quite a few years, and it's always done a great job, until now. I've installed v 7 on a new laptop computer running Windows 7 Home. I've been trying to back up to external HDs connected to the computer by USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 (several different attempts to back up). Backups are incredibly slow, and they hang up (they freeze, won't go any further) at somewhere between 10% and 80% of the HD space of the computer. There's plenty of space on the external HDs, hundreds of GBs more than the capacity of the laptop's HD.

I've tried two different external HDs, both of which worked well on previous backups (again, they have ample free space). I've done uninstall/reinstall of HB twice - same result, the backup is incredibly slow and hangs up long before it completes.

Any thoughts?

Just wondering if replies are visible - apparently no thoughts on my Handybackup problem yet.

The slow speed of the backing up process is probably connected with the size of the write buffer to disk. As write operations to external drives usually are not cached, the write speed may depend on the size of the blocks we write in portions to the disk. We will test this functionality.
