I also noticed that many people are recommending epson-inkjet-printer-escpr in AUR. So is there any pitfall of the default driver (EPSON L4160 Series, driverless, cups-filters 1.28.10 )? Which one should I use?

If you're using Windows and you've installed a Epson driver, VueScan's built-in drivers won't conflict with this. If you haven't installed a Windows driver for this scanner, VueScan will automatically install a driver.

had the exact same problem with you on my L4160. called epson care centre and what they told me to do which fixed the issue was:(for windows) computer settings > devices > Printers & scanners > manage > Printing preferences:Under layout, select "flip on long edge". And under "print on both sides".Under Advanced, select A4 paper size.
