Hello all,
I hope everyone is doing well.
Over the coming weeks you’ll be hearing a lot from us as some BIG changes are in the works.
1- HandsOn and UGA’s Center for Leadership and Service (CLS) have teamed up to provide all agencies with a little more support. The CLS has a program called Service Ambassadors which help students on campus connect with opportunities to serve in the community. As part of this effort, the Service Ambassadors will be assisting your agency with making sure that all the projects and opportunities you have are properly listed on the HandsOn website. They will be a friendly reminder every two weeks to make sure that we are able to recruit for your programs well enough in advance and to make sure that you’re receiving the notices when volunteers register. Please makes sure that you follow-up with them when they contact you.
2- Volunteer Solutions- In deepening our efforts to provide a single source for listing of volunteer opportunities in the community, HandsOn has partnered with UGA Center for Leadership and Service (CLS) and the Office of Service Learning (OSL) to unify our platforms for listing various community, classroom, and service- learning opportunities. As part of this partnership the three of us decided to utilize a new volunteer management software which will allow us all to better communicate about the various opportunities that are occurring in the community. We are looking at a March 1st launch date. We hope this system will allow you to not only list project and record hours easily, but also simplify the process for listing projects since where it’s a service learning project, a professor or departments expectation to do service hours, or just a general opportunity to get engaged they will all be shared across the platforms between HandsOn, the CLS and the OSL.
3- HandsOn Northeast Georgia is now an officially recognized affiliate of HandsOn Network. Since our start in 2006, we have been an affiliate of the state-wide network, HandsOn Georgia. This past fall we decided to apply for affiliate status with the national HandsOn Network. We received word today that we have been approved. J This will give us access to additional resources and materials to help strengthen volunteer programs across Athens.
We’ll be sending out an announcement, regarding some first steps for using the volunteer solutions software later today.
If you have any questions regarding the software, please direct them to David Samchok at dsam...@communityconnection211.org or 706-353-1313 ext 238
