However even that's not right.. as that's the "old style" euro plates where front and back plates are both large. The euro classic NEW style are where the front plate is small (like the normal white/black premium plates).
So you've just purchased a new car that depreciated by a substantial amount (1000's of dollars) when you drove it out of the showroom and on top of that you spent money on vanity plates ($500+ I'm guessing) and now you're complaining about spending $50 to protect the plates and not detract from the looks of the car?
I was in Supercheap today and they had these for the Euro Style plates. However, as your plates are different sizes front to back, you would probably have to buy the Euro sized protectors and then another set of the smaller one's for your front plate. Will probably end up costing $100 or so, but what do you do? Like anything, if they have it and you want it you will have to pay. I didn't notice any of them have a large and smaller protector n the one pack.
There's a pretty limited number of ways a front number plate can get "damaged", let alone a rear one, and anything that's gonna seriously mess up a plate is definitely going to smash a bit of clear plastic too.
BS. A front number plate can suffer from stone chip damage, damage from accidents, damage from the elements and so on. I have my personalised plates that are a few hundred dollars to replace still looking like brand new after 15 years and the front plate has been hit a number of times by other cars and the rear plate has been involved in a few rear enders and each time the plate has come through without a scratch.
- For a start they're legal.
- They look better on the car then just a number plate by itself as you don't see all the fixings or the sharp edges of the plates.
- They make it harder to steal the plate as the newer altrex ones are difficult to remove as opposed to two screws on a number plate.
- You can customise the colours of the plate protector to suit the colour of the car.
By that reasoning bonnet protectors are worthless as are headlight protectors. You may like a number plate that looks like it's been sandblasted but others may want to protect their plate. It's no big deal if you buy cars all the time and get plates with them but if you have personal plates it is something you want to look after as it's big dollars to get replacements.
By that reasoning, anything that is going to smash the headlights will also smash the protectors (this is true, a stone flicked up from a car passing the other direction will still crack the headlight right through, and legally, this still requires replacing.
I have done about 350,000kms in the last 5 years, and my plates look normal front and back. I have a chunk of numberplate paint missing in the centre of the plate, this was done by a moron reversing back with a tow-bar, I dont think the plastic shit covering would have stopped a towbar connected to an F250 truck, what do you think?
Neither the lined or unlined Altrex Number Plate Protectors prevent the letters or numbers from being clearly seen from a long distance (in excess of 20m which is the legal requirement). None of our covers are tinted. All Altrex covers are flat across the entire surface. They do not contain any reflective material nor do they have any characteristics which impede radar or speed cameras.
I can interpret just fine, but with regards to law, I will listen to a governing body before I listen to a profiteering organisation (I never said that what they where saying was incorrect, I was stating my opinion).
A link was posted to a government site, and another link was posted to a company's website, and all I said was that I would take what is written in the government site over a website made by a company with profits as their main interest.
What this means for the simple people is that if a government website informs me of a law, I should take this into CONSIDERATION when purchasing a product which MAY or MAY NOT effect the law that this website proclaims to.
If the company was selling 5% tinted covers and saying it was legal, I would say that with my interpretation of the law, that it may obscure the numberplate, therefore being illegal with regards to what is posted on the relevant governing body's website.
You will note however, that I have not actually declared if they are or are not legal, therefore telling me I interpreted the law incorrectly is you either trolling, making dirty assumptions, or talking out of your arse.
The fine grit that comes off the road from vehicles ahead, slowly sand blasts the front exposed faces & this includes the rego plate. If you've fitted personalized plates, then a few mm of acrylic are going to protect them...
In all fairness most people won't be bothered by it or won't notice it, especially from far away. I'm just extremely pedantic about that so I think it would bother me just knowing it's there..I know, weird.
I went to supercheap to find number plate holders and that was the only brand they stocked in the two stores I went to. I also went on the autobarn website and that was the only brand they stocked too. I assume most people who want number plate holders would try one of these places. I would assume people looking for plate protectors would try supercheap or a similar place first, and this brand seems to be in all the major stores?

This is a pair of lever blank covers to suit our unique range of Gardinia universal upvc door lock handles which can also be used on composite & timber door systems. the universal handle set will replace almost any 92pz door handle that may have been fitted to a double glazed door over the decades.
The blanking cover plates are used to turn the door handles into a blanking cover plate so that they no longer use or require the cut out for the key euro cylinder. This is often desired in situations such as on a french door or where a customer wants to remove the euro cylinder for increased security options.
These covers are designed to specifically fit the Gardinia universal door handle kit and are used in place of the normal euro cut out covers that would always be supplied with the full handle kit set and is an ancillary additional part to turn the afore-mentioned handle kit into a lever blank set.
