Was Big Dave our Cup winner from last year, thus this year's Commish?

Joe Bertsch was the 'hired gun' Commish last year if I remember correctly.

I believe Dave is new Commish.

There was some talk of changing the source of the weekly lines in 2013, was that ever agreed upon and if so, what was the outcome? I can't recall.

Been a long 8 month offseason!

Hey guys,
Yes I did run away with it last season.  I am in no way prepared to be the Commish this year as I just started a new job this month and will be traveling a lot in the next 2 months or so.  Also, my computer skills are very poor.  So whoever wants to lead us this year, please just decide amongst yourselves who wants to be Commish.  New rule I would like to install:  no one can bail out of the season until they are mathematically eliminated!

I don't see anybody volunteering for Commish duties.

Could somebody setup the group website to post this year's picks?

If a Cupper can't post to the website, send a text to another Cupper before the game?  Then at some point, either the person who sent or received the text will update the Groups website?

My cousin runs a very similar pool to ours and he sends out the lines via Sheridan USA Today once each week.  Yes, this does allow for injuries and other factors to maybe affect lines by kickoff.

But the lines are almost always close, and we are all playing by the same rules/lines anyway.

If somebody makes an early pick during the week, they just post the pick with the USA Today Sheridan line?  I think the 'honor system' works just fine.

I don't see us changing the rules.  Some folks like to go big or go home early in the season.  $5 a week, drop out as you wish...

Suggestions?  Maybe we don't need a Commish?

I like how Big Dave says he can't do the Commish job, but still makes a new rule.

The winner of the Cup has always been the Commish and perform those duties as a respectful Cupper.  Now it seems that rule is not being followed for the 2nd yr in a row.  We need someone to do the standings each week and we need someone to collect and distribute the $.  Big Dave:  You can still collect the $ from everyone via PayPal correct?  That would leave someone to setup the Google Group and do the standings.  I believe Sean gave me $50 last year and it still was not worth it especially if I drop out early.  The only way I would even consider doing the standings each week and doing all the tasks the Commish does would be if my entry is free.  So basically the pot would exclude my $.  I am all for if someone else wants to be the Commish. I suggest we use the consensus vegas lines from Vegasinsider.com.  A Cupper would make picks by submitting a screenshot which we can all do via a smart phone...

I just set up the Google group and invited all of us.  Hopefully we can sort out the Commish in the next couple of weeks.   I suggest we use the consensus vegas lines from Vegasinsider.com.  A Cupper would make picks by submitting a screenshot which we can all do via a smart phone...

We can post our picks to the Google Group site or text another Cupper.  The website needs to have the all the picks entered.

Vegasinsider.com for the lines, the 2nd column 'VI Consensus' on that site.

Commish duties boil down to getting the results from website to a spreadsheet, and the occasional Commish ruling?  Most issues have been resolved by now.

Commissionership by Committee?

I don’t think Commish by committee is a good idea.  Too many hands stirring the pot and I can see how mistakes can easily occur

The rule should be if an individual who wins and doesn’t want to be Commish can pass along the Commish’s responsibility but would have to cover the total cost of the individual who will take that responsibility on until they drop out (or an agreed upon amount).

Just an opinion from a guy who drops out by week 5 every year.

I obviously get a 10% cut of the agreed upon compensation.

I am heading out on vacation and won’t be able to get my picks in on Sunday.  3 stars on Houston -3.5, 2 on NE-9, I can’t get on vegasinsider from work so I will need confirmation of the lines Commish.

I just looked on cbssports.com and they have a feature called "Office Pool Manager". You can set it up with spreads. It tracks everything online. Limited work for commish. I am not sure if there is a cost associated but it seems like it would be really easy to use.

i agree with Jed.  As part of winning the cup you have to fulfill the duties as Commish or pay someone else do so (i.e. pay their cup fees, which could be $25 or $100)
