Hi Drummers,
Speaking of Zakir Hussein, I wanted to recommend a cd to you all. It
is one of my favorites. I didn't realize until now how old this
recording is. It's from 1974. The title is "Venu" by Hariprasad and
Zakir. Hariprasad is a master of the bansuri, the bamboo Indian flute.
There is an alop that lasts for almost 30 minutes, where you hear only
the bansuri. The other piece on the cd introduces the tabla, starting
with a seven beat 3, 2, 2 cycle and gradually working its way into a
teental 4, 4, 4, 4 cycle.
If you want to hear what two master musicians can create and at the
same time be deeply moved, check out Venu.
