A man accuses author Mort Rainey of stealing one of his story ideas. Rainey, who is going through an ugly divorce, attempts to prove to his accuser that his own story was published first, but all evidence to support his argument begins to disappear, along with the people who might confirm his case.

... I published a novel called Misery, which tried, at least in part, to illustrate the powerful hold fiction can achieve over the reader. I published The Dark Half, where I tried to explore the converse: the powerful hold fiction can achieve over the writer. While that book was between drafts, I started to think that there might be a way to tell both stories at the same time by approaching some of the plot elements of The Dark Half from a totally different angle. Writing, it seems to me, is a secret act--as secret as dreaming--and that was one aspect of this strange and dangerous craft I had never thought about much.

I knew that writers have from time to time revised old works--John Fowles did it with The Magus, and I have done it myself with The Stand--but revision was not what I had in mind. What I wanted to do was to take familar elements and put them together in an entirely new way. This I had tried to to at least once before, restructuring and updating the basic elements of Bram Stoker's Dracula to create 'Salem's Lot, and I was fairly comfortable with the idea.

One day in the late fall of 1987, while these things were tumbling around in my head, I stopped in the laundry room of our house to drop a dirty shirt in the washing machine. Our laundry room is a small, narrow alcove on the second floor. I disposed of the shirt and then stepped over to one of the room's two windows. It was casual curiosity, no more. We'd been living in the same house for eleven or twelve years, but I had never taken a good hard look out this particular window before. The reason is perfectly simple; set at floor level, mostly hidden behind the drier, half blocked by baskets of mending, it's a hard window to look out of.

I squeezed in, nevertheless, and looked out. That window looks down on a little brick-paved alcove between the house and the attached sunporch. It's an area I see just about every day . . . but the angle was new. My wife had set half a dozen pots out there, so the plants could take a little of the early-November sun, I suppose, and the result was a charming little garden which only I could see. The phrase which occurred to me was, of course, the title of this story. It seemed to me as good a metaphor as any for what writers--especially writers of fantasy--do with their days and nights. Sitting down at the typewriter or picking up a pencil is a physical act; the spiritual analogue is looking out of an almost forgotten window, a window which offers a common view from an entirely different angle . . . an angle which renders the common extraordinary. The writer's job is to gaze through that window and report on what he sees.

But sometimes windows break. I think that, more than anything else, is the concern of this story: what happens to the wide-eyed observer when the window between reality and unreality breaks and the glass begins to fly?

No changes are currently being considered for park entry fees ($35 per vehicle, $20 per person, or $30 per motorcycle).
The additional revenue collected under these fee increases will enable the parks to keep up with the rising costs of campground operations, as well as support ongoing maintenance and renovation projects, including the replacement of fire rings, picnic tables and food-storage boxes, the rehabilitation of comfort stations, and the removal of barriers for improved accessibility.
The National Park Service has also established booking windows for all campgrounds for the 2023 season. In response to public feedback, these windows vary in length to allow for different approaches to trip planning.
Lodgepole, Potwisha, Sentinel, and Azalea campgrounds, as well as all group campsites throughout the parks, will have a 4-month booking window. In an effort to accommodate last-minute campers, Crystal Springs Campground will have a 2-day booking window (with the exception of its group sites). All other campsites will have a 1-month booking window. All campsites will be reservable same-day if they are still available. Campsites must be reserved using Recreation.gov.
As a reminder, at this time most campgrounds in the parks are closed for the snowy winter season. Sites in Potwisha Campground (Sequoia National Park) are available and must be reserved through Recreation.gov. Sites in Azalea Campground (Kings Canyon National Park) are first-come, first-served during the winter months but will require reservations in the spring and summer.
For more information about camping at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, visit go.nps.gov/SEKIcampgrounds. To make camping reservations on the go, download the free Recreation.gov mobile app by searching for Recreation.gov in the Apple Store (iOS devices) or the Google Play Store (Android devices).

The scene is laid out in modern times. The place is somewhere close to a massive mountain. A network of roads, connecting small towns covers the region. Each town has a depot that puts in orders for goods, as they are consumed by the townsfolk. The cargo is delivered by trucks. The player is one of the long-haul truckers who runs about the region looking for a gainful order and peddles wares from town to town. The profit depends on the shortage of the merchandize delivered, so the quickest player makes the most.

As the game goes on, a successful driver can upgrade the truck or change it to another one, and then is able to buy another (and another, etc.) truck and even hire a bankrupted rival. The strategic goal of the game is to monopolize the delivery business.

You must have older hardware to run this game on Windows 7. I am running it with an AM2 socket Phenom quad core and a Radeon 7700 series graphics card. The main menu is an absolute mess and the intro video doesnt play, but the game runs fine. Just make sure you TURN OFF YOUR HEADLIGHTS in the rain or it WILL crash the game. Set the weather to nice just to be safe and save often.

I've done all that on my windows 7 too but the game still doesn't look right. I have the original disc that I use to download it too but I don't think that makes any differences. I think its just to old. Hope they remake it for newer windows or something simpler to it.

Most modern GPUs doesn't support anything less than DirectX 9 sometimes D3D 8. You'll need a DirectX wrapper for DirectX 1 to 7. It's not perfect, but I got solid 60FPS instead of 20s-30s when I first play in the 2000's.
