Previously several people commented about doing Joy to the World, with a bell peal starting with the lower octave ringing C5 down to C4, then the higher octaves doing it twice as fast, then congregation singing "Joy to the World". One person said keep the bells ringing together, another said do it randomly. I want to try that. Could someone please speak to that or tell me who to contact?
Thanks,
Nola Jewell Stucky

We’ve been pealing on Joy to the World for a number of years now. Random, together, staggered.. it all works. Honestly, it’s really hard to do random tempos; people kind of fall in with each other. And I’m not a fan of slow peals; I prefer the energy of everyone pealing at a good clip. But, you can overlap when the different octaves start. You can have a few people just random ring notes in the chord. Lots of choices and it all sounds, well,  joyful.

Also, I would mention that we originally did this in C major; bought an extra C5 and C6 and had the organist play in C major. Now we just do it in D major, as it is in the hymn book. I bring my bells and play one octave on a bell tree and then have other ringers play surrounding octaves.

Really cool touch is to have everyone random ring notes in the chord as they lead the congregation out of the church at the end of the service.

Regards,
Patti

Thanks!  I love the idea of pealing the bells as they lead the congregation out of the church at the end!  Thanks, Nola
