Isn't Karen Roth Kevin McChesney?

I believe this to be true.  At National, when a conductor -- I forget which -- was thanking the composers in the room whose pieces she had done, she was about to say "Karen Roth" and another conductor -- I <cough> forget which ;-)  -- sitting next to me said "I wonder if she's going to out Kevin" and then she said "Karen Roth"... and nobody stood.  A composer or two later, she said, "Kevin McChesney" and he stood.
This was the first I knew of it.

I thought I took a class from her at National in Norfolk many years ago.

Since Karen Roth has been published through the Jeffers companies, you could contact Jeff Curran. publications director who would surely pass a message on for you.

Hey Ruben,
I think you may be remembering not a class but a Silent Auction item complete with picture that was up one year, probably in Norfolk. I go every year since 1994 and don't remember any class, but I could be mistaken of course. Karen Roth is a nome de plume but I'm not telling for whom. Bill Ingram has the best suggestion yet to contact Jeffers publishing division.

Suuuuurre  Thomas.  I don't believe it for a sec.

PS.  Just out of curiosity, why would do people choose to write under nom de plumes anyway...I get George Sands.  But if one isn't dealing with prejudism and bias,  is it just fun????

Hey Carol!

I write under two pen names myself! It allows me to write in different styles and genres. And while I don't pump out music like some might - thus needing another name - I do write in a few different worlds these days.

In the world of novelists it's because they have a different "voice" they want to write in, and they don't want to confuse their readers.

In the world of screenwriters, it's because you realize the movie you wrote is being so decimated by the producer and/or director and/or studio, you don't want your name on it any more.

In the world of film directors, only one pseudonym is allowed.   All directors who ask to have their names taken off movies (usually because the studio hacked it to pieces in the editing room) are assigned the same name by the DGA:   Alan Smithee.   Great story behind it:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Smithee

I can't speak for handbell composers, but I'm guessing it's reason number one.

Hey Rima!

Alan Smithee has now been removed from the DGA as a pseudonym. Ever since Alan Smithee the movie came out and ruined the name!!

Yeah, now it's even harder to get your name taken off a movie.   Also for screenwriters….  If you get paid over a certain amount, you forfeit the right!

Life is hard, and then you try to make a movie.

Beats me.  I kinda like seeing my name on the music  ;-)  and just about every piece I've done is in a different style.
