We covered our tables with silver cloth after ringing, and left the bells underneath the cloth.  It is expensive, but cuts way down on the tarnish, and is better than storing the bells in the cases.

Craft felt is a non-woven fabric. It doesn’t drape like corduroy at all, and the color won’t look the same. For an inexpensive solution, try faux suede (it has other names)- a brushed polyester that has a nap, like corduroy, and costs much less, It looks good, and doesn’t wrinkle. We’ve used it for years, and it works just fine.

Especially if you are looking for a short-term solution, I don't think the tablecloth will make that much difference to the sound produced. My group just made a "short-term" investment into $100 worth of tablecloths (https://tableclothsfactory.com/collections/90x156-polyester-rectangle-tablecloths<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ftableclothsfactory.com%2Fcollections%2F90x156-polyester-rectangle-tablecloths&data=04%7C01%7C%7C733d010c80ac4c9b88c408d98d73c15a%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637696350573458008%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=36Zjkwg28jOywVle4L966m%2B8h%2Fp%2BkNhwuKiiiqYhj9o%3D&reserved=0>) just so we could have matching ones across all of our tables (we are planning on altering them to make them more fitted, but $12/tablecloth is still cheaper than buying fabric).

Hi!
I ring with a group that has this sort of fabric. It works just fine for everything except the brush damp. You don’t get the same effect. Money matters and nobody in the audience really knows what “could be”. They only know “what is”.

My bell choir is performing with one person per table and have since October a year ago. That means six tables. A problem – we have only four covers. These covers are a good quality corduroy. If we were all adjacent on one long row of tables four would be plenty.

Last year we found two pieces of cloth in some forgotten corner and used them to cover the other two tables, though not well. Since it looks like we’ll be at individual tables for a while longer I though we should get inexpensive cloth to go over these two tables.

The fabric lady in the bell choir stopped in a store after rehearsal this evening. Corduroy colors won’t match. But what she described as a “craft felt” would and is a lot cheaper. Cost is an issue because these may only be used until we can get back to a common table.

I know bell sound is enhanced with corduroy and isn’t at all with many synthetic materials. From the bell sound, would felt work?
