I'm hoping you might be able to suggest publishers that would accept a celebratory concert opener, 3-5 octaves, level 3. It is not based on a sacred tune, so publishers of church music wouldn't be interested.

Any ideas where I might submit it?

8 Bit??  Grassy Meadow??
I don't know if 8 Bit just does pop music, but it's worth a try...that's Nick Hanson and Grassy Meadow is Jason Krug.

I hope you find a place. Even though we are a church group, I prefer original music to church music arrangements. I like people to listen to the music with an open mind as opposed to listening to hymns they already know and have preconceived ideas of what it should sound like.

Hello!

Try Hope Publishing! They published a lot of different things, not just church music.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've now gotten two suggesting From the Top. I have a long relationship with Leila and she almost always gets to see my work first. I sent her this one. She described it as excellent, but couldn't fit it in her catalog.

Does Grassy Meadow publish music beyond Jason Krug?

Thanks, Carol, for the shoutout in response to Paul's post about handbell publishing!

I wanted to take a moment to clarify what exactly 8-Bit Handbell does publish, which as of very recently, goes beyond the pop music genre.

Initially, 8-Bit Handbell's goal was to provide arrangements of pop, rock, musical, soundtrack, and video game scores to the greater handbell masses, with special regard toward school and youth programs. In that vein, it has been a great success with about 40 titles published. And while it did initially begin as a personal publishing project, the catalog now includes pieces arranged by P.L. Grove, Brian Seemann, Chris Simon, and Sasha Lovitz. This leads to the next update!

If you happened to have seen the recent Distinctly Bronze East repertoire announcement, you might have noticed a piece published by 8-Bit Handbell ("Superluminal," by Brian Seemann) that is *not* defined by one of the genres previously mentioned. This piece marks the beginning of a new direction for 8-Bit Handbell, unique, concert-level pieces that may not be an exact fit for one of the larger handbell publishers.

All this to say that if you have an arrangement that fits any of the aforementioned styles, or if you have something unique in your portfolio, I would be more than happy to have a look! Or, I'm always happy to answer questions. Feel free to respond to this post if you think the question may benefit the masses, or hit me up at the email listed below!

Hope everyone is well, and if you are at the start of your new school or church year, I wish you the best of luck as everything gets going!

Nick, great description of how 8-Bit Handbell works.  Just curious, how do you handle copyrighted material?

Thanks,

Thanks for the question, Linda!

Currently, all copyrighted works in 8-Bit Handbell's catalog are sold directly through Sheet Music Direct or Sheet Music Plus. This is because all copyrighted arrangements are uploaded through ArrangeMe.com. For those besides me who have music in 8-Bit Handbell's catalog, they upload their arrangements to their own accounts on ArrangeMe, but as a part of 8-Bit Handbell's catalog. However, 8-Bit Handbell does not receive any compensation for this. Those arrangers receive all royalties as agreed upon through ArrangeMe's terms (8-Bit does not receive any of those funds).

I am researching selling other copyrighted material that is not found on ArrangeMe.com, but have not yet taken that step!
