Can someone recommend a company in the U.S. that refurbishes Whitechapels. I just found out that the five octaves at my church are over 40 years old and have never been refurbished. Apparently an engineer in the group use to do his own maintenance on them but I think it's time for more serious tlc.

Thanks,
Jeff

Susan Nelson has just posted reminder information on that.

CBR Handbell Repair opened a new branch in Colorado that is being run by Marlow Cowan's son Greg.  Marlow said Greg literally grew up in his shop and can do anything he can, from fabricating parts to repairing cracked castings.  Greg machined clappers for my E3 and F3 Maryland bells some years ago because commercial units would not fit the castings… he does amazing work!  He is focusing primarily on refurbishing Whitechapel and Petit and Fritsen bells, but like Marlow, has worked on American and antique instruments as well.  The shop in Ankeny, IA will remain open for now.  Marlow (who is 97 years young!) has experienced workers and a shop foreman employed at that location.  The new shop address is: Greg Cowan, 18410 Hackney Circle, Colorado Springs, CO 80908  Phone is 719-4953353 Cell 719-3301588  Email is: greg...@yahoo.com

We are going to try a WC repairman in Petoskey, Michigan.

Jared Urman
Urman English Handbell Repair
853 Kolinski Rd
Petoskey, MI 49770
231 881 5658
231 347 4681 fax

Jared was trained by William Aten, who for many years had a refurbishment
business in northern Michigan. This works especially well for us because
we'll be able to drive the bells rather than to ship them.

Another church here in town had Jared refurbish their WCs, and they were
happy with his work.

Good luck!

One of my customers has used Jared.  She was very happy with his work.

I too need some help with my Whitechapels. Is there a video or on line help? We have felts ungluing themselves and clapper mechanisms that need adjustments. I need to know how to fix these without sending them miles away (We're on the East coast). TIA for your help.

Whitechapel has a maintenance manual available here: http://www.whitechapelbellfoundry.co.uk/techbook.htm

The Whitechapel maintenance classes taught by Kathryn Hughes at Area FCs and National seminars are fabulous. Do you mean spring or clapper ball felts? The felts on the springs are affixed with sealing wax and easy to replace. You can order parts (even small quantities) from the foundry.

I absolutely recommend Urman English Handbell Repair in Petoskey, MI.  He refurbished our 3 oct. set of WC a few years ago and did a fabulous job.
