Albert Alfonso, primo bodhran maker and teacher is filling up his
truck with shiny new bodhrans and heading out on his famed Summer
Workshop Road Trip.
Albert is looking for people to host Bodhran workshops from Texas to
the lower and mid East Coast, and back towards Milwaukee, also then
south back home to Texas. Wow what did I just say? About 1/2 of the
country, the mid to the eastern half. All of this to coincide with
Albert going to Swannanoa N.C. Elkins W.V. and Milwaukee
WI.
His instruments are played in some of today's most prominent celtic
bands. His own innovative playing style has given him the opportunity
to accompany many famous musicians.
Albert will be sporting the widest variety of skins that he has ever
made available before. Of course, there's "Albert's skins" that he is
known for and in addition, he will have thick, very soft, pliable skins
and very thin skins loaded with mylar in the same vein as the drum of
Alberts that John Joe Kelly has been playing for awhile now. A lot of
people would refer to this type of drum as a top-end drum.
These workshops will allow musicians to experience first hand the man
and his drums.
Albert's creativity extends beyond his music into his artwork and his
personality. These workshops are sure to be entertaining as well as
educational and are likely to be an experience you will remember for
some time.
It is proposed that these workshops might be quite intimate i.e. a
minimum of six people, that way more attention can be given for
various skill levels. The cost of each workshop will be $35.00 per
person.
If you wish to host a workshop please look at the itinerary below,
the dates in red are "OPEN" travel periods between the festivals. It
is hoped that the workshops can be scheduled along the route but most
detours can be accommodated time permitting.

About the Drums: (From Albert's web site)
Now you can get my drums in the standard red and in natural birch.
All of these sizes are now available:
 4" deep 14"
 4.5" deep 16"
 6" deep 12" with cut-out
 7" deep 14" with cut-out
 6" deep 15" no cut-out needed
I will now do custom stains, and depths. Many of these new drums have
come about from successful customer suggestions, usually people
wanting to try a new type of skin but keep the advantages of my rims
& tuning system.
I now have available upon request, ULTRA SOFT SKINS. These are fairly
thick, and very warm in tone, not like my regular skins. Also,
special request... I will offer 18" and 16" double skin drums @
$325.00 and $300.00 for a limited time.
For those who want an extremely thin skin in any size, WELL... I will
do that now also. I hate tape.. so, for the thin skins ONLY, I am
loading the inside of the drum with an applied translucent flexible
coating of my own concoction. With Calf or Goat skin, I can mill to
exact thicknesses. Calf skin will mill thinner- if you want an exact
thickness; all I need is the thickness in millimetres.
Prices are $425.00 for the deep 14 and 15, 12" drums are $350, and
everything else is $395.00.
Postage is $25 for shipping inside the USA. Exchanges can be made
within 30 days.
