In my case, I have a carmodel with some rhino-materials and some vray-materials, which i did by myself. Now i want to make a vrayproxy. But the thing is, that the Multi-mat has some materials (named like the ones I did in Vray materialmanager) and the other ones are MultimatSub-Materials (also it seems, that vray creates a single Sub-Mat for every single mesh of the model, even if it has the same Material applied. So I have some redundant Multimat-subs).

I am trying to convert material from Rhino (5) to Vray (Next). I am using _vrayMtlFromRhino when objects with rhino material are selected and nothing happends. I thought that after that command will be new identical vray material created in vray asset menu.

Rhino 7 PBR materials can be rendered directly or converted to V-Ray materials by either changing their Type or using the vrayMtlFromRhino command. This also provides indirect support for Substance (.sbsar) files.

I uploaded a sample with two instances of the same block, one with vray material and the other with Rhino material.
It should also be noted that the mapping coords established before making the block become lost when switching to Rhino renderer but they are respected when switching to Vray renderer.

Hi thx for ur fast reply.
Ill try to explain the situation a bit more.
I should be creating some furniture and interiors. I use rhino 7 and vray5. Then i also have 3ds max 2020 also with vray 5 on my computer.
I see that online there r a ton of models in .obj or .max and .mat that have their nice materials and uv mapping.
Now i would like to use them in my rhino and render them there with vray. But i would like to import them and then be able to modify them a beet, tweak some settings here and there.
What would be a correct workflow to do it?
Many thx

So I'm new to enscape and fairly new to rendering in general. I am using Rhino 6, with Enscape as the render export/video maker. However I have been using vray for materials, and they all have a very high reflection/glossiness when rendering out in enscape. I saw a post somewhere saying that vray materials don't work well with enscape but no solution/workaround for somebody who like me has all the materials already set, and mapped. I was hoping somebody might have some advice on how to either get the vray materials into materials that render better with enscape or a potential tweak to the materials in vray that would remove the gloss/make the two plugins work better together. Thanks for any advice.

Hi.
Is any one there with the same trouble?
Two instances of Rhino 7 opened.
One to copy from, the other to paste.
Vray materials list keep showing [imported] every time there is a need to copy paste.
I am a bit pissed off with vray. No simple stable things.
How do we keep our big files organized if every time is a need to copy paste vray is duplicating the same materials with name aka [imported]

its only on vray materials list. V-Ray keeps duplicating materials and dont ask for any pop-up menu.
I am really pissed of with this software.V-Ray sucks.
This is really unproductive workflow pipeline.
Chaos group keeps developing odd new features despite create a stable vray.

yes I see that here too, it looks odd indeed (to be honest I never used the dialog from the vray menu and wonder why there is 2 of those dialogs in the first place), I assume you have reported this bug before?

On a Machine B, we open the same file produced by machine A from the server, to do the simplest thing on earth, just pressing the render command and see exactly the same results as in Machine A. It looks like this is not possible. Lights do not even appear in the vray asset editor, although they do appear in the scene.

Are we saying that a rhino file with vray lights, materials and settings can only be rendered/edited by the same machine which created it, otherwise, if opened on another machine, you have to recreate the entire scene from scratch??

We need you!
This site wouldn't be such a great vray material resource without the help of our community! People from around the world put there knowledge and love into their materials and uploaded them to our site to help and inspire others.

If you want to contribute to this site too just follow these simple steps:

  1. Download our Sample scene for Vray and 3DSMax here
    vray-material.de sample scene
  2. Load the scene and apply your material to the sample object.
  3. Adjust the material if necessary (for lighting and stuff)
  4. Render the image with the preset settings.
  5. Save your render with a suitable name that represents your material (e.g. dark grey concrete, fine red leather, brushed steel)
  6. Save your material as a single library, give it the same name
  7. OR save the max file using the same name
  8. Send everything including all texture files, the sample render image and either the max-file or the .mat library file to this email address: sup...@vray-materials.de

send all available neui log files to our contact form
They could be found from the About window, see here or from C:\Users\ [YOUR USERNAME] \AppData\Roaming\Chaos Group\V-Ray for Rhinoceros\vrayneui

One final thing to note - when running the vrayMtlfromRhino command - the UV mapping channel was set to 2 for each (converted) vray material, instead of 1. Having the channel set to 1 displays the texture mapping correctly when rendering. I manually corrected this in the _vray file.
