Hello list,

A while back, there was a Python module available for HamsterDB.
Version 0.0.1 can still be found at https://github.com/cruppstahl/hamsterdb-python

However, http://freecode.com/projects/hamsterdb-python suggests a 0.0.2 release has been released at some point in the past. All download links to 0.0.2 are pointing to http://hamsterdb.com/public/dl/hamsterdb-python-0.0.2.tar.gz, which results in a 404 error.

So; I have 2 questions:
- Where can I get hamsterdb-python 0.0.2 (or any newer version)? Are there any plans on reviving the Python interface to HamsterDB?
- What hamsterdb library version should I use in conjunction with this module? I'm assuming this works with hamsterdb 1.X.X, but not 2.X.X?

Thank you in advance,
Roel Brook

Hi Roel,

I'll happily resurrect the python wrapper if somebody is interested.

I found a copy of 0.2 on a backup disk and i can make it available to you if you're interested. But i doubt it compiles, and it will only run with hamsterdb 1.x. I don't recommend to use 1.x unless you have really good reasons (i.e. an embedded platform without c++ compiler).

Best regards
Christoph

Hi Roel,

the branch "topic/next" now includes a subdirectory with the new python API. Only the Win32 project files are missing, everything else is complete.

https://github.com/cruppstahl/hamsterdb/tree/topic/next

I will release 2.1.8 in 1-2 weeks, but the branch is stable enough for a first look.

best regards
Christoph

Hi Cristoph,

Sorry for the late reply. Gmail seems to have grouped your reply under
a separate tab, obscuring it from view.

I am glad to see the return of the Python API. Thank you for that. I
am sure to take it for a spin.

That said, if I am the only one asking for it for > 3 years, my
programming ambitions are limited, and I alone are probably not worth
your time for "having" to maintain a second codebase.

Thank you though!

Sincerely,
Roel Brook

Hi Roel,

don't worry, it was on my TODO list all the time. And once it is written, maintaining it is not a big deal.

best regards
Christoph
