I am trying to use Hamster-Playground with Linux Mint 13 with Wine. I
have installed the program files to the correct directory in .wine and
can run both HService and HControl. I have as yet configured no NNPT
address or other locations.

The problem is that when trying to log into HControl using either
127.0.0.1 or localhost the login fails with an error #10061 error.

The x.log file reads
<CONSOLE> Service disabled: IsInstalled.OpenService failed: 1060
Service does not exist

Can anyone help?

To add to the above. HService is running when I try to start HControl

| WSAECONNREFUSED 10061 Connection refused.

Most possible reasons:
- the local server at Hamster is not running
- port configruation mismatch between hamster/server and client application
- port may be blocked, e. g. by a firewall or simillar

Do you have any access to hamster at all, e. g. by NNTP or POP3 (port
119 rep. 110)? What respond do you receive when you enter inside telnet
a command like "open 127.0.0.1 110"?

If you start hamster as a normal Linuxuser (not root), you have to be
sure that all local ports you want to use must be higher than 1024(? i'm
not sure).

Example hamster.ini:
[Setup]
local.port.nntp=2119
local.port.pop3=2110
local.port.smtp=2025
local.port.reco=2023

If you want to use SSL- or TLS-Connections: I had no success with
wine1.5 or higher. With wine1.4 everything's running well.

When I try opening 127.0.0.1 110 I get
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

I also cannot contact using firefox and the same download of Hamster
copied to a Windows installation does connect, so the problem doesn't
appear to be Hamster but on the other hand I can ping either 127.0.0.1
or localhost with no problems whatsoever.

The problem is obviously not a Hamster problem, per se, but I had
hoped that it was common enough, if Hamster was installed to a Linux
Wine system, that someone would be familiar with it :-)

In any event, I shall persevere and if I can find an answer I'll post
the fix here for anyone else that is trying the same thing.

Thank you for that. I had been testing as a non-root user and will
change the ini file to reflect your suggested ports.

The problem is obviously a Linux-Wine problem as the same Hamster
files if moved to Windows works perfectly. I'll keep looking.

Further to my problem with HControl.

I inadvertently typed an incorrect password into the HControl log-on
screen and the log-on returned the error 10061. That seemed a bit
strange so I erased all the entries in the log-on panel and hit
return. The same error. I than made a number of attempts with various
combinations of blank spaces and incorrect entries and found that no
matter what entries were made, or not made, the error code was always
the same.

Thinking it might have something to do with permissions in the Wine
directory I tried pinging 127.0.0.1 and that worked normally.

AS HControl seems to be an application to assist in configuring the
system it would seem possible to manually configure the various
configuration files if all else fails, however I also suspect that
there is a very good reason for having HControl and therefore hesitate
to start on a manual configuration.

As for HService, I changed the port numbers as recommended and now
HService appears to be running normally although I've yet to add any
actual server addresses.

If you have any further thoughts please let me know.

Not much more than considering the possible spatial separation between
an user sitting in front of his client computer somewhere and the
Hamster running on a server system somewhere else. And the handling is
much more easy to operate, of course.

Shouldn't be a problem (as long as you stop running Hamster meanwhile;
and as long as you don't make any mistakes ... :-/).

I got HConfigure running. (buy using the correct port designations) so
the question is immaterial now :-)
