It's going to be interesting to see if these medications that are currently being used to fight obesity and diabetes become a help for people trying to drink less.  As someone who is taking one due to PCOS and prediabetes, I will say they have completely turned me off to alcohol.  My problem was never alcohol but eating very unhealthy for several weeks after having a night out with drinks. I haven't wanted to even touch alcohol since I started this medication, it's really amazing and the potential is astounding, especially as research continues in this area of peptides & GLP-1 agonists. Thanks for sharing your experience Kelly! I have a client on this medication for weight loss/stabilization after surgery and they also had a difficult relationship with alcohol. They'd reported a similar effect as you describe. Could def be a game changer and hopefully with few negative side effects long term. Congrats on your hard won success too!

Cheers!

This is really interesting, thank you for sharing Kelly!  Does anyone know anything about the mechanism that might be causing this effect?

I can ask the HAMS for women group if anyone has had this experience.  If I get responses I'll let y'all know.

Stay warm everyone (we are covered in snow in Philadelphia!)

I wrote about the mechanism here... it seems to be shifting attention away from food, rather than
making it unpleasant ...

it's weird because some journalists (with no data that I can find) are claiming it's more like naloxone or anti-dopamine
or other anti-pleasure drugs, but that really doesn't seem to be how it acts.  I'm sure some people find it unpleasant
simply because drugs act in hugely varied ways.

So my personal experience. There are definitely foods I don’t want and there are foods that don’t agree with me any more.  especially anything with a lot of sugar. I used to love wine and now don’t really want it. I have had a vodka soda on it and it was fine but I didn’t want more like I usually do.

To me, food tastes the same. It medication does quiet my brain. I don’t think about food all the time, I get full or actually feel full, which I didn’t in the past. I stay full longer, and it suppresses my appetite alcohol included .

The additional positives that I was not expecting is that it helped with my focus. I have ADD and I don’t take medication for it but I definitely have days where I am really focused. Also, day one of the shot any depression I had was lifted, and it has been gone, since. I was really in a slump, and I’ve been highly motivated for the last six weeks. I realize some of that was likely due to my diet but again it was an instant effect. So I would say it’s definitely not anti-dopamine because as someone who suffers from a lack of dopamine I don’t feel that way at all. I even want to exercise. Which I didn’t before.

As far as unpleasantness, it can have side effects. I have slight nausea every once in a while. I’m not on a super high dose though. The other side effects that are annoying or constipation but you can stay ahead of that and being freezing all the time but I can deal with that right now as well. Anyway, thanks for sharing the link. I will check it out.
