Knowing that many 'MS rookies' may get on the air for this event, and questions may arise, HamSCI will be hosting an MSQP Zoom session, beginning ~0900 UTC on Monday (5AM in the Eastern Time Zone, North America).  Very informal, no recordings, and, of course, video is optional if you haven't had time for coffee, a shave, makeup and/or a comb of the hair ;-) There's no telling how long we'll leave it open, we'll have to see who attends and finds it useful.  All are welcome, rookies and veterans.

Meeting ID: 286 316 405,  Passcode: hamsci

One last reminder that operating hints are at hamsci.org/msqp, the Operating Guidleines (aka Rules) are at hamsci.org/msqp-rules.  A few updates were recently made to the rules:  Science Objectives were finalized, a notation that duplicate QSOs are allowed and will be scored (ie, the more QSOs, the better) and later today, after 0000z, a link to the entry form will be added.

Lastly, I want to recognize McKenzie Denton* KO4GLN, the originator of the MSQP concept.   I hope she can find time in-between her college, work and intern activities to join us.

*McKenzie was recently awarded an ARDC scholarship to continue her studies at Old Dominion (September, 2025 QST).   Nice going!

Contacts on 10M MSK144 are underway since 0000.  All I've seen so far, working 3 QSOs seem to be F2.

Here's a very brief 'halftime report' from the first 24 hours of the MSQP:  In a nutshell:  Fun was had, with good participation, and unexpected propagation.

We had a nice mix of MS veterans and rookies, starting with the contest period, shortly after 0000z Sunday night (local), or midnight Monday UTC.  There were a lot of stations (50!) monitoring 10m, according to PSKReporter, far more than normal (6M had a lot too, but that's not unusual)

A small group (~6 check-ins, with one being 6-8 people at W3USR, University of Scranton) met on Zoom to share insights.  Questions asked and answered, so successful.  Familiar calls appeared in the decode windows:  AB4EJ, N0AX, KN4GDX, K1HTV, W3USR, W1UE, AD8Y,  W1XP, AC4FD and probably a whole lot more HamSCI members whose calls I don't have memorized.  At least one HamSCI to HamSCI QSO was seen:   AB4EJ <--> AD8Y

The ionosphere threw us a bit of a curve, as at least 1 or perhaps 2 or 3 other propagation modes were active on 10 meters, we suspect sporadic E and perhaps tropo, plus some good old F2 refraction.  Those modes, when present, tend to dominate the band, making it hard to squeeze in MS QSOs between the ionized regions.  Nonetheless, everyone persevered, and most said they will be back for day 2.

So...let's hope 10m goes back to its 'dead' ways, so the meteor trails can be the dominant propagation mode on 10 meters, overnight and into everyone's local morning.  CU on 28.145 and 50.260 soon, and perhaps on Zoom in the morning!
