If you have a Grape 1 (either Legacy/Classic or DRF) Personal Space Weather System, your system is probably not uploading.  Here is what happened and how to fix it.

Your system has been uploading to an old URL (pswsnetwork.caps.ua.edu), but this still worked because there was a rule forwarding this to the new server URL pswsnetwork.eng.ua.edu .   This forwarding rule went away on April 13. (Arrgh!)

Here is how you fix it (2 steps):

1. Update the uploader.config file in your system so that central_host = pswsnetwork.eng.ua.edu              (instead of pswsnetwork.caps.ua.edu)

If you have done the above but now get messages such as " Fatal error: Host key verification failed."   - then you need to do the next step.

2. Manually connect to the server using:

The server will prompt you to accept the host key;  accept it.   The reason for this is that secure connections require that you have the host key for the new server in your key area on your Grape.

Now try to upload.

Please contact me at this email or at mailto:beng...@cs.ua.edu  if you have trouble with this process, and we will work with you to get your station going again.  Sorry for the confusion, this was a lapse on my part.   -73- Bill  (AB4EJ)

I don't get the accept prompt.

It looks like you are logged in, which likely means you previously accepted that key.

Thanks Bill,

More work to do it seems.  It looks like I (and perhaps others) need a (new) host key?  Or, soemthing else.

Best,

Hi Everyone,

Seem to have solved it for my GRAPE-1 DRF station.  Uploads sent and map updated.

YMMV.  I repeat YMMV

In a terminal, issued a 'ssh pswsnetwork.eng.ua.edu' command, instead of  'lftp sftp://pswsnetwork.eng.ua.edu'

1) SSH connected and showed the fingerprint — because the host wasn't in my ~/.ssh/known_hosts yet (or the hashed entry wasn't matching cleanly).

2) typed yes — SSH accepted the host key and wrote it into ~/.ssh/known_hosts, hashed for security.

3) LFTP appears to  works silently — because LFTP uses the system SSH under the hood, which checks ~/.ssh/known_hosts. The key is now cached there, so no prompt was needed — it just verified the server presents the same key and connects.

GL es 73,

Bob

We/you no longer have the ability to ‘ssh’ (login remote and create a Shell) into the pswsnetwork computer.  You can use lftp, for example, but NOT ‘ssh’.

lftp://pswsnetwork.eng.us.edu comes back as no such file or directory

That does not look like the valid command:

lftp sftp://pswsnetwork.eng.ua.edu

Typing: sftp://pswsnetwork.eng.ua.edu to the command prompt has no meaning.
