I just learned through Jim’s QRZ.com page that he became a Silent Key on April 23, 2026, age 81.

Jim was retired electrical engineer, a long-time ham, and, before his illness, an active member of the HamSCI PSWS Community.  Early on in the Grape 1 project, Jim led efforts to create Grape 1 documentation and provide support to those building Grape 1 stations.

Jim was very humble considering his many engineering accomplishments:  90 patents, past president of the IEEE Consumer Electronics Society, and an inductee into the Society of Cable Television Engineers Hall of Fame.

His on-line obituary describes a strong dedication to family and church.  He was a well rounded individual that many of us had the pleasure of talking with on the weekly PSWS Zoom sessions.

RIP, OM.

Dr. Nathaniel A. Frissell Ph.D.
