HamSCI will be hosting its third MSQP of 2026 in just a few days:  July 29-31, 2026.

Since its inception last year, the MSQP has generated considerable interest in the amateur radio community. It is easy for any amateur to participate with a basic station running 100 watts and a dipole, using the MSK144 mode in the WSJT-X suite. This is a combination of 'special event' and 'contest' to generate scientific propagation data during meteor scatter events. Contest rules, guidelines, and prior results can be found at hamsci.org/msqp

Recently added to the MSQP home page:  A chart of WAV file contributors from the first two events of 2026.  Those listed configured their WSJT software to save their decodes as WAV files...and then uploaded them to HamSCI's Zenodo community after the event.  More files are needed from future showers:  We need a 'critical mass' of WAV files from a large variety of stations, locations, bands (6 and 10 meters) in order to begin a propagation study comparing 6 and 10 meter propagation via meteor trails.

And note...even if you don't plan to transmit, stations who simply monitor, and save/upload their decodes, are performing a valuable service in the name of research.
