As expected - still sad to see it gone.  It was still loud here  this AM. Not sure when they pulled the plug.

Hi Tom,

CHU ceased operations on all frequencies just after 1410 UTC today, 22 June 2026.   (Reports were that 14670 kHz was already off or at reduced power.)

When we (Bell Labs) ran our magnetometer array in Quebec in the 1970s CHU was crucial for our timing.

I was monitoring CHU on 14.670 MHz here in Tucson, AZ when they turned off.  Here's my Doppler gram of the event:

In the above plot, the vertical scale is 15 Hz total..  The horizontal axis tick marks are every 10 minutes, time increasing left-to-right with 07h MST labelled.
Because my receiver drifts, I have a cal tone at 3.0 Hz above the nominal CHU frequency, showing as the continuous nearly straight line.

You can see that CHU disappeared just after 7h10 MST, or just after 14h30 UTC.

A sad day.

Hi Darrel,

Very nice plot.  For the record, I think there is a typo - do you mean

just after 7h10 MST, or just after 14h10 UTC

All we can do is be accurate in this unfortunate situation..

Ooops, thanks for catching that typo.   Very important to be accurate, and evidently I'm only halfway there.

Nice going, Jesse.  You have yourself a collector's item.

Note that CHU hasn't changed their QSL design very much in 50 years, still honoring Sir Sanford Fleming, Canadian engineer, inventor and scientist. (Unfortunately, they did not write any reception details on the QSL they sent me - but I know I was an active SWL in 1975/1976 - 73 de Gary, AF8A
