The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine are seeking experts to serve on the Committee on Radio Frequencies. The committee considers the needs for radio frequency requirements and interference protection for scientific and engineering research, coordinates the views of the U.S. scientists, monitors and responds to radio frequency interference and allocation issues as they arise, and participates in filing comments before the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA).
Based on the Statement of Task and the continuing membership of the committee, we are particularly looking for expertise in the following areas:
Earth remote sensing, passive and active (including techniques, technologies, and resulting science, and weather forecasting and modeling)
Radio astronomy (including techniques, technologies, and resulting science)
Radio spectrum management, domestic and international
Space weather observations in the radio and microwave (including techniques, technologies, and resulting science)
Nominations will be used to fill approximately two open seats on the committee in addition to collecting information for potential speakers and participants.
We invite you to submit your suggestions using this form by May 20, 2026 at 11:59pm ET.
(The Committee on Astronomy and Astrophysics also has an open call with a deadline of May 11th.)
