It’s perhaps not directly related to the work of HamSCI, but I’m happy to announce the publication of my book – As Time Goes By: A Comprehensive Guide to Time and Frequency Measurements. I had planned and imagined this book for years, but didn’t start writing it until after my retirement from the Time and Frequency division of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in 2023. My motivation for writing a book after retirement was to try and give back some of what was given to me, by sharing what I’d learned during my four decades at NIST.
The 568 pages of Time Goes By are divided into the five parts and 18 chapters listed below, and they cover all aspects of time and frequency metrology. Each chapter is accompanied by an extensive list of references.

At least several of the chapters can serve as valuable references for the work being done by HamSCI. For example, Chapter 5 provides a detailed discussion of frequency measurements, Chapter 10 extensively covers time signal stations including WWV/H and WWVB, and Chapter 12 extensively covers GPS and other satellite systems. Many of the other chapters should also be of interest, because the book often focuses on the close relationship between radio communications and frequency metrology.
As Time Goes By is available in both hardcover and eBook formats. It’s being published by Jenny Stanford Publishing and distributed through Routledge (Taylor & Francis), Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers.
