Hello All - A potential PSWS host recently asked about the antenna recommendation on the HamSCI WSPRDaemon SDR PSWS page.  Until today, it said 'Recommendation Under Development'.  I figured it was about time to fill in that gap as best I could; the result is shown below.  I hope others agree with my wording.

Also, the new Research Assistant at U of Scranton, Emma Moran, has been working on system documentation.  I added the GitHub link which we are now publicizing.  It is very much a work in progress.  I believe she is building on the work done by others while being very 'hands on', programming one or more systems as she goes along.  Eventually, Emma will be responsible for assembling systems at Scranton, for shipment to grant-funded hosts.

  • Antenna recommendation  - Recent deployments have been successful using the DXEngineering DXE-RSEAV-1(requires two coax cables, one for signal, one for +12VDC) or the DXE-RSEAV-1FV1 (one coax cable carries both signal and 12-15VDC).  Some users have reported better (lower noise) results using the two cable version of this antenna system.  Either way, a clean source of 12-15VDC is required.  Most 'wall wart' type power supplies are too noisy - their switching artifacts spread across the RF spectrum we are trying to receive.  Others have reported success with amplified receiving loops, fan dipoles, etc.  There is probably no 'one best' solution for all situations (considering geography, local noise floor, the host station's desire to transmit on the HF bands {antenna separation}, etc.)
