Is there a problem with the UofA server for the Grape 1 uploads (or did the host server address change)?

Thanks.

Hello Mike - That's a good observation...I agree, something is not quite right, though I don't have any insight on the problem. It is, however,  an opportunity to notify everyone about a slick new tool to help keep an eye on things:

Through some  behind-the-scenes software magic,   Kristina Collins, KD8OXT created a new Google Group ( groups.google.com/g/psws-daily ) specifically  for monitoring the health of the upload process.  You can join the group, or just be a Viewer, as it is open for reading by anyone on the web.

The April 22nd report shows 75 observations by 75 stations, while the April 23rd report, only 34 observations by 34 stations.

If you go all the way to the bottom of each day's report, click on View All Files on Observation List Page.  Comparing the 22nd and 23rd confirms what you are questioning - Grape 1 uploads seemed to have failed on the 23rd.  We'll have to wait for an update, probably from Bill Engelke, AB4EJ, to learn more.

All - It appears that the Grape 1 legacy upload process is still 'belly up', as of 23 April or so.

Reminder: The data you've collected is not going to waste - the system is designed to store your data on your R Pi's SD card, waiting for the upload process to succeed.  (You can see the CSV files, waiting to go, in the home/Pi/PSWS/Sxfer directory).

We'll all need some guidance from AB4EJ on how to fix this error (in addition to changing the upload server URL):

cd: Fatal error: Host key verification failed.
put: /home/pi/PSWS/Sxfer/2026-04-27T000000Z_N0000063_G1_EN91gn_FRQ_WWV10.csv: Fatal error: Host key verification failed.
chmod: Fatal error: Host key verification failed.
cd: Fatal error: Host key verification failed.
mkdir: Fatal error: Host key verification failed
chmod: Fatal error: Host key verification failed.

The latest from AB4EJ on legacy Grape 1 uploads:

Here is a procedure which contains the important second step, that is to get the new server's public key  into your Grape:

1. Update the uploader.config file in your system so that central_host = pswsnetwork.eng.ua.edu              (instead of pswsnetwork.caps.ua.edu)
Grape 1 systems have the config file in /home/pi/PSWS/Scode or in the Documents folder.

2. Prompt the new server to give you its host key (which is new):
You should see this:
The authenticity of host 'pswsnetwork.eng.ua.edu (...)'can't be established.
Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)
Answer: yes.
At this point the server gives you a “permission denied” message; ignore that. You should now be able to do uploads.
Let me know how it goes...   -73- Bill

That seems to have done it.  Perhaps check Node 8 if you can.

Folks:
I changed the uploader.config file and it's still not uploading my files. Here's my uploader.config file:

[profile]
token_value = Jrs2DsA4Lq0N6M1dmEEvLY6Oz4QJ8EAB
grid = EM68eb
prefix = wb9yig
thestationid = N000085
central_host = pswsnetwork.eng.ua.edu

[spectrum_settings]
obs =
band = 10.0
instrumentid = 252
throttle = 200K
spectrum_storage = /home/pi/PSWS/Sxfer

I tried getting the server key into my pi but I get the following error messages:

pi@PSWSGrape1:/home/pi$ ssh-keygen -R pswsnetwork.eng.ua.edu && ssh pswsnetwork.eng.ua.edu
Host pswsnetwork.eng.ua.edu not found in /home/pi/.ssh/known_hosts
ssh: connect to host pswsnetwork.eng.ua.edu port 22: No route to host
pi@PSWSGrape1:/home/pi$

Any ideas on what I missed.
Thanks

Dave - The pSWS server may be down.  I cannot reach its normal home page (the map) with a browser.  I have been trying since about 1030 UTC this morning (Friday).

If I am correct, you will have to repeat Bill’s instructions once it comes back to life.

Good morning,

I applied the procedure. My GRAPE 1 is now able to login. But the file transfer failed (9 files in the backlog).

Was this upload failure only a one time event?

Normand,

Can you forward the full xferstat file in the /home/pi/PSWS/Sstat directory? This may show why uploads failed.

Normand,

In the log, we’re seeing multiple “Login failed: Login incorrect” messages for each upload attempt.

Try this. Display the contents of your uploader config file:

cat /home/pi/PSWS/Scode/uploader.config
Look at thestationid and token_value
Paste thestationid value (probably N000095) into the following command line:
sftp [station id value]@pswsnetwork.eng.ua.edu, for example, sftp N00...@pswsnetwork.eng.ua.edu
Note there is one less zero in the node number than usual.
Press enter. When asked for a password, paste your token_value
If login succeeds, type quit. Then verify central_host in uploader.config is pswsnetwork.eng.ua.edu and correct it if not.
If login fails, you may have an incorrect station id or token value.

Let me know the results.

Bill AB1XB

Bill,

I have accidentally erased the proper token value in the uploader.config. How can I recover it?

Go to https://pswsnetwork.eng.ua.edu/
Login with your username/password.
Click Stations

Click View my stations
Click the ID of your station
Click your Instrument ID in the list
Click Download Config File
Edit the file downloaded and set band = the band you are listening to.
Save the file into /home/pi/PSWS/Scode/uploader.config
Then go through the below process. It may ask you to accept the server key, type yes.
You should now be all set for the next upload.

I was able to log into the server this morning and make the host key change. I'll see if the files upload at the regular time this evening.

Thanks//Dave WB9YIG
