I want to set up my new Grape DRF headless, but don't want to risk the installed software. What VNC is recommended, and steps to safely install. Any help for this non-programer is really appreciated.

Similar to Het I need advice on newly installed (and functional!) Grape1-DRF.
I have two minor issues:
First, I’m monitoring WWV/WWVH on 15MHz and have changed the jumper to 15MHz and programmed the Bodnar unit output for 14.999MHz. However, the Band label on the waterfall still shows 10MHz (as does the script - Band=10.0). I’d like to be sure my data is properly labeled so I’d like guidance on making the band change.
Second, I got an ‘update available’ message but had to ignore it on first startup since I didn’t have the Ubuntu credentials to proceed. Here again, guidance would be appreciated so I don’t make a mistake.
Thanks in advance!

Further items to be modified:
UTC one hour off (1 hour behind) - could be related to recent change to DST - west coast now at UTC minus 8 hours. How to correct?
Also, in the waterfall there appears to be a slight negative offset to the yellow zero frequency line - is this of concern? Note - this is not the WWV Doppler shift signal.
Another item - the latlong info is not my correct location - close but may be the center point of the Maidenhead Grid for CN85qn. Should this be changed?
Many thanks for guidance re: these items - I’d like the data to be as accurately reported as possible.

Hello Hetzal and Al,

I’ll answer some of these.

1. To install VNC on the Grape1-DRF system, you can follow the documentation written by Randy, N4TVC on the Grape1-DRF Documentation page:
Installing and Using RealVNC on the Grape 1-DRF (aka 'headless operation'). I recommend using copy-and-paste when executing the sudo commands.

2. Monitoring 15MHz WWV: The DRF system is set up to monitor WWV/WWVH at 10 MHz and I don’t know if there is an easy way to change it to 15. Bill Engelke would be the person to ask.

3. Software Update Available messages: General preference is to ignore these, since applying updates may affect the operational software.

4. UTC one hour off: Check the Date & Time settings; click the icons at the upper-right of the desktop screen, scroll down to Settings. Then in the left panel, scroll all the way down to Date & Time and click that. Automatic Date & Time should be enabled (slider to right), Time Zone should be GMT, Time Format should be 24 hour. Once set, close the window. You may have to reboot for it to go into effect.

5. Slight offset in waterfall signal: Check to be sure your Bodnar GPSDO is locked (red LED steady, not blinking). Could be other reasons.

6. Lat-long off: I think the PSWS system calculates lat-lon from Grid, so if it appears slightly off that could be just due to Grid granularity. Make sure your grid is correct in the PSWS Edit Station Details information.

UTC does not have a time change.
