Hi everyone,

I'm a freelance Ruby and JavaScript dev living just outside
Winchester. Steve recently spotted me on another list and pointed me
here so I thought I'd say a quick hi :)

I will try and attend a meetup asap, it'll be good meeting other
people that use Ruby and don't live in London!

Out of interest, do you guys have many clients from hampshire? What
kind of stuff do you work on day to day?

Right now all my work comes out of London and I'm doing a fair amount
of commuting, so I'm interested to know how others work.

Hey Mike!

The majority of the clients I work with are in and around London, however, I have worked with a few of companies in the Hampshire area. Two of those projects were Ruby and one was iOS development.

I work from home just outside of Southampton and don't generally have to commute often (maybe once a month). On a day-to-day basis i'm generally working on Rails projects, mostly backend stuff but I also do frontend, I just don't enjoy that as much :)

It would be great to see you on a Wednesday afternoon if you can make it?

We've got a regular Wednesday lunch club going.

We meet at the Trago Lounge, Portswood (http://www.thelounges.co.uk/trago-lounge/) at about 12pm. Very informal. The idea being that you can just show up and there should be other ruby devs there. I think we're hoping for our biggest group this Wednesday, be great if you could make it (they have wi-fi).

I'm co-founder of a small consultancy (http://heavi.es). We work with a range of clients from around the country. We have one client from Portsmouth that we've been working with for the last 2 years, but London is where a lot of our work is too.

We try to avoid commuting too much, and work remotely where we can. We do a lot of remote pair programming, to make this feasible. I'm still fairly regularly in London though.

Hey guys, good to see the list is still alive!

I just started a 5 day a week commute for 3 months (bummer) but will
try and carve out a wednesday in the next couple of weeks and come
down to meet you guys.. also if anyone is looking for some extra
ruby/javascript hands definitely let me know! ;)
