Hey Gang,

so here is the deal, the biology department thinks it will have
limited space for us this spring to begin a tray or two of seedlings
and Kathryn herself has been kind enough to offer us a space in her
OWN home for a tray as well. These possibilities however come with
some restrictions. We would not be allowed to grow an plants for
aesthetic purposes, so any plant must be a contributor to a vegetable
garden (this includes non-edible plants used to maintain a healthy
garden). Also we could not grow any plants that might try to 'take
over' other plants in the greenhouse through airborne means. We also
run the risk of losing all the plants if there is an uncontrollable
infestation of insects.

The greenhouse is pretty self-sustainable, the heating is controlled
and the plants are watered by an automatic system so the work needed
is mostly watching for problems and helpful care. the only hitch is
that we will be allowed minimal or possibly no access to the
greenhouse ourselves and will need either a faculty member (possibly
Kathryn herself) or a privileged biology student to watch and care for
our plants. Kathryn has suggested, and i think it is an absolutely
necessary idea, that we get in contact with and work collaboratively
with the biology student group Tri Beta for support both this year and
if we wish to continue our use of the greenhouse. It must be clear
that as of now any use of the Hamline greenhouse is a special one-time
circumstance, collaboration with Beta Beta Beta will both facilitate
use this year and in future years.

In our short meeting Kathryn was able to provide valuable information
and tips for gardening. She will be an incredibly valuable resource
for contacts and gardening tips and she is eager to help us as far as
she can. She suggested that we get in contact with Bri Judd, a senior
bio student, and Nick Shuster(i probably miss spelled this), the
leader of tri Beta, as they might be interested in helping/
collaborating with our group. If anyone has any questions about this
talk to me, Jesse Zager, and i can clarify some info.

I will not be at this Wednesdays meeting but this is certainly a topic
that will need discussing. What has become an even more pressing
issue as a result of this meeting is WHAT plants we will be putting in
gardens and planters. We will also need to know this when ordering
and planning the layout of our gardens.

Keep at it,
JESSE

Actually, Mike Schuster (not Nick) is the student that is employed to
take care of the biology department plants and greenhouse. He is not
the leader of Tri Beta (though I think he is a member).

Jesse-
Do you want to continue making contacts with biology people and
updating us via the google group? Contacting Tri Beta and Mike
Schuster would be a good next step.
