Hey group,
At our last meeting on Wednesday, one of the major topics of
discussion was the need to get down to details about what exactly we
want to grow. We seem to have many sources for obtaining the plants
and seeds free of charge, we just need to decide how much and what we
need so that we can get back to the people who have generously offered
to donate to us. As designated "seed researcher", I am willing to
organize, research, and put time into figuring out gardening details.
However, this involves some important decisions that I feel everyone
who wants a say should be involved with. Thus, at our meeting we
talked about getting a group together to really take some time to
figure out what we want to grow. I have found sources that would be
helpful in figuring out when we should start planting various
vegetables inside. We also have a pretty good idea of how much
gardening space we have, so it seems like this could be a relatively
painless decision process, in fact it could be rather exciting.
The thing is, this will probably not be able to happen over the short
time we have together on Wednesdays, especially when not everyone can
make it. So it was suggested we find a day that we can devote a good
chunk of time to SPROUT to discuss important matters. I liked the idea
of having various session times ( i.e. for t-shirts, fund raising,
what to grow, etc) so that if there was a matter you were interested
in being a part of you could show up at that time. I know finding a
time to do this could be difficult. But if we could, I would propose
finding a time this weekend.
Whatever we agree on, it should include some sort of collaboration for
what seeds we need to get since we want to start planting some things
beginning in March!
So maybe our goal should be to reach a consensus by our next meeting
on Wednesday as far as when we want to have this SPROUT "seminar" day.
Then we could invite all other interested parties (HMC, professors,
community members) as to build social capital and ensure well-rounded
input!
I apologize for the length of this e-mail, but apparently there was a
lot to say, and I'm really excited about picking delicious foods to
grow.
Feedback is more than welcome! And it would be good to get a sense of
when/if ya'll could get together next weekend.
Also, I will try to get the notes from the last meeting up soon.
Best,
Erin
